You know we play 6 other SEC teams outside of those 3 right?

Yes, this is my response too. We still play 6 other SEC teams. We will get all of those other teams every 4 years. No matter your annual opponent, the schedule is still going to be tough as hell.
I think the league did a dam good job at making it about as fair as they could and keeping some of the very traditional rivalries. Unfortunately, LSU didn't have that type of rivalry game. And no, Bama wasn't that type of rivalry as many people think it is. About the biggest argument for an LSU rivalry would be Miss. St.... I'm out...

I understand the opposition on here because, at the end of the day, it’s in LSU’s best interest to play a softer schedule.

However, I agree with you that it is insulting to a Charter Member of the SEC to relegate LSU to two (2) annual mandatory opponents for the next 4 years to former SWC schools. Quite frankly, I think the SEC should have just lumped TX, TXam, OK, MO, and AR into a western division and left us out their shite. I didn’t want Arkansas in the SEC let alone all these arseholes.

So yeah I think LSU got the snub, we could have had Vandy, and MS State in lieu of those SWC teams. That frickin boot thing won’t go away. I hate them.
And I REAALLLY hate the damn weirdos from College Station.

So Yes I agree. But I also agree with the cupcake schedule vs having to play say Bama and GA each year.

You cannot be a season ticket holder. You probably sit at home and gripe that the stadium looks empty. We want good games at home, sorry A&M is boring.

This. As a fan, literally the only thing I care about is seeing interesting entertaining football games. SELU isn't entertaining. Auburn, Florida, and Bama are always appointment football every season. Arkansas and A&M are always "oh, I guess that game is coming up". Now, we don't get the games I actually want to watch every season. This is a downgrade.

The only plus sign is that we'll get to play Georgia, Kentucky, Texas, and Tennessee more often.

I hope we never play another FCS team ever.

Geography played a role. Arkansas, Texas, and Mississippi are neighboring states. Alabama and Florida and Georgia are not neighboring states.

However, common sense tells you that not having Bama on your schedule is a good thing.
Correct, since the LSU football team seems to be historically petrified of seeing the color Crimson in Tiger Stadium every other year.

That's also the ONE GAME, where Tiger Stadium is fairly close to it's former self as far as Decibel Level From Fan Yelling is concerned!

Help me understand how that helps the team get to the playoffs?

I have no issue not having to go listen to cowbells every other year.

Bama already has Auburn & Tenn.

Florida is comparable to Ark/A&M, but our first meeting wasn’t until 1937

I care about the team getting to the playoffs, winning the national title, and being the best damn football program in the country.

You know permanent opponents are a reflection of traditional rivals--except in LSU's case.

We don't have a natural rival. Bama was fun during the Saban run because of that dynamic, but it's over.

This is who we've played the most in our history, which surprisingly, didn't start in 2003. We have a ton of history with all 3 teams and it makes sense geographically, which was clearly a goal of the SEC. We've played A&M more than Auburn and almost as many times as Florida.

LSU opponents historically:

OPPONENT - TOTAL GAMES - FIRST MEETING
Alabama - 85 - 1895
Arkansas - 66 - 1901
Auburn - 55 - 1901
Florida - 67 - 1937
Georgia - 32 - 1928
Kentucky - 57 - 1949
Mississippi State - 114 - 1896
Missouri - 3 - 1978
Oklahoma - 3 - 1950
Ole Miss - 109 - 1894
South Carolina - 22 - 1930
Tennessee - 33 - 1925
Texas - 18 - 1896
Texas A&M - 59 - 1899
Vanderbilt - 32 - 1902

We aren't the main rival for any of those. shite, we aren't in Bama's top 2.

Hate to lose Florida, but it doesn't make sense with the geography component and we have just as much history with A&M, it's just not all recent. Gainesville is arguably the only place I like visiting less than College Station in the conference too

Be pissed at the TV networks and the conferences to create these super conferences that are too damn big just to make some money.

But also, we will still play everyone else every other year. It's not like we will be waiting 10 years to renew a rivalry.

Last 8 meetings with the Aggies have gone to the home team. It's a good game. I hate those people and don't feel like they belong in the SEC, but they shovel a shite load of money into football and they'll be a hard opponent almost every year and a big time matchup as long as that continues.

I'm choosing to make the most of that.

Also helps that I know we'll play everyone else in the conference on a rotating schedule.

They have six other SEC games rotating every year so they play every SEC team every other season.

Exactly. LSU will still get UF, Bama, and Auburn, it will just be on a two year rotation. For example, we might get Bama (home and away) for 2 years, then Auburn for the next 2 years. The goal was for every 4 year student athlete to play every SEC team over their 4 years. That will still happen.

My only worry is how it shakes out. Theoretically, LSU could get UGA, Bama, TX, Oklahoma, Auburn, and FL all in 2 year slot plus the perma 3.

Then it could get vastly easier with KY, USCe, Vandy, Tenner, Miss St., Mizzou, plus perma 3.

I just hope there is some balance with the new schedules.

If proximity were important, Tuscaloosa is closer to Baton Rouge than Fayetteville and College Station.
