BR paper The Advocate reported that when LSU President William F. Tate was asked about the high
salaries of coaches and assistants such as LSU basketball coach Kim Mulkey (almost $3 million) and LSU’s new Oline coach Brad Davis ( $700,000), Tate’s reply was “Can I put my capitalist hat on? You are what the market will bear.”

I mean, even capitalist think that Mulkey salary is too high (I don't). Essentially Woodward has started an experiment. His hypothesis is that if he dumps money into womens basketbll to bring a high quality product that challenges for championships headed by a Louisiana legend, then revenue will jump by more than expenses in the long run. I personally think its worth it even if it doesn't raise expenses too much, getting a championship head coach that will improve the LSU brand is much more important in the long run.
What will be interesting is how will Mulkey respond to NIL, how does she adjust and help lead LSU into the future of womens sports where all the sudden you have athletes for the first time that can make life changing money.

too lazy to look this up but does anyone have a general breakdown of how much of, say, O's salary is directly funded by the state(as opposed to tv/radio. apparel, and other sauces?)
