That's why they are RANTARDS.

But to your point, LSU's $8 million will put them in the middle of the pack in the conference, but it is 4x what the 24-25 roster had in it.
So does this protect CMMs job if he goes .500 in SEC and out in first round of tourney?

He's not getting fired if he makes the tournament

True

Hell, even BYU is paying a guy $3.5 million.
That was a transfer player. They have a high school recruit coming in at $7 million. 2 players combining over $10 mil

I didn't get anything while on LSU's Livestock and Meat Judging Team except meals at competitions ( we got our Arse kicked )

Last year, ahead of the season, the school most in basketball circles felt was paying the most in NIL was Arkansas, at an estimated TOTAL $5M...for the entire roster! While I have no doubt the market has increased, I seriously doubt it's increased to the point where one player is getting $4M
I mean it's being reported multiple places that they had to give him 4 mil to back out of the draft.
Lsu supposedly paid dedan Thomas 2.5 mil.

I’d actually be upset if we played a basketball player that much
You wouldn’t want the NIL fund to pay Cooper Flagg $4 mil to play at LSU.

We had Ben Simmons and 3 other NBA players paired with a bad coach and look how that turned out. What good is Flagg gonna do with an even worse coach?

Supposedly, the NIL “shortage” was a one year cushion for SW perpetuated through the media. Politics at its finest. Now “we” got a year to search, evaluate 25-26, or hope we make it to tourney. It’s a Win Win for admin no matter how it turns out, the middle class(FANS) suffers again.

Welcome to "journalism" in 2025.
Matt Norlander, of CBS Sports, tweeted out:
quote:
JT Toppin is expected to be paid ~$4 million in NIL earnings at Texas Tech next season, a source tells CBS Sports.
Every other outlet is posting the same thing ALL citing Norlander's tweet. It would be like if a poster came on here and posted "Someone told me (Player A) has been offered $5M to sign", then 37 other posters all started separate topics just repeating what the OP said. The fact that 37 people are discussing the original post doesn't make the OP more credible. They aren't providing any new or different information. It just means 37 people are simply repeating the exact same information.
Norlander's source is, almost assuredly, an "agent". But unlike in pro sports where a contract would be signed with the TEAM outlining the pay that can verify what the agent told the reporter, here there won't be any such contract produced (if one actually exists). He's not signing an employment contract with Texas Tech. A lot of times the numbers reported are grossly inflated by agents...who are the "sources" for the report.
The NIL landscape is the wild west. Everyone is throwing out higher and higher amounts, with little to no proof of it being true, simply to just leverage desperate buyers to keep increasing the price ceiling

We had that; his name was Will Wade.

It's because we suck at basketball and y'all's hero Wade fricked us beyond all recognition

No one cites their sources through parenthetical citations anymore. Journalism is dumb!

Basketball is all Texas Tech has, so what did you expect?
Texas Tech has been spending a ton on football. 247 had their transfer portal class ranked #1 this year.
Football is still the priority in Lubbock. They just care a lot about basketball, too.

That is absolutely ridiculous. You’d think $8 million would get you an all star team in college.

Over 1 million for Stanford pitcher for softball. Texas has oil mo ey. We have to get use to it.
