For months, LSU officials have said it would be premature to discuss a location for a $400 million arena they want to build on campus.
But their emails show one site appears to be the clear favorite.
Consultants, attorneys and LSU officials have focused on the site of the LSU Golf Course at Nicholson Drive and Gourrier Avenue as the potential home for the new arena. They’ve gone as far as running studies on how putting the arena there would affect traffic patterns, according to renderings and emails obtained by The Advocate | The Times-Picayune through a public-records request.

The emails also show that the two developers in the running to design and build the arena are the Oak View Group and ASM Global. LSU officials have refused to identify the two developers, but the records make clear who they are.
Consultants’ renderings also contemplate the impact on traffic and surrounding areas if the arena were to become part of a broader LSU entertainment district, a university research district or a combination of the two. Under those scenarios, the arena could have its own hotel and be surrounded by retail, research and office spaces.

they have been eyeing that golf course land for years
the course is lucky to break even so it's always been a target for placing another building

The new arena is going to lead to a level of investment that’ll be the end of shitty tigerland.

I hope that means Gourrier would be widened to four-lanes.

I agree. Tiger Land will be revitalized by this IMO. a few hundred yards from those bars to basketball games is going to be awesome for fans.

Pump the brakes!

A streetcar from downtown that ends near the arena would've been dope too by Broome thought the free money from the federal government to do that was racist.

There's no reason that anyone lives between campus and north to interstate. Buy it, steal it, whatever.

Here's a larger version of the Phase 1 plans.

They need to widen/fix Nicholson southward by Tigerland. Time for some Imminent Domain…

Until LSU asks that TAF reimburse the golf fee x 37000 or whatever current enrollment is

Them bars will probably disappear. Someone will offer a ton more money for other things.

Honestly, I'm amazed a developer hasn't bought the area. Tear down the old garbage buildings and put in a mixed development like Perkins Rowe.

Would they build a brand new basketball practice facility around the new arena? It seems like they would want the basketball offices, practice facility with the new arena or just keep it separate?

Fred's makes a shite ton of money and Marc Fraioli ain't selling out. I could see more investment going into the bars because they get more business.
