re: LSU doubling down on McMahon, saying NIL key to future.

I really don’t get the commitment to more NIL at this point. Does that mean McMahon is going to fill out a whole new roster next year? we’ve already got the high school guys signed. You’re either going to be paying more for guys that are about to go 4-14 at best in conference or you have to completely overhaul the roster, or possibly overpay for guys who make you marginally better. I’ve listen to McMahon talk about how he wants to build this program and this AD is basically painting him into a corner he doesn’t want to be in. They’ve got a lot of balls to put out this narrative right now.

Agreed. This has been a glaring omission for three years now. What makes you think he can fix it? He has had money, look at the recruiting class. He got the best transfer point guard in the nation last year, did nothing with that player. His reputation was supposed to be developing three star guards into first round draft picks. What objective data makes you believe that he is going to improve in year four?

I am okay with this.
Let him have a shot with real NIL money.
No one can win when we are at the bottom of the conference in NIL spending.

Where is this “real NIL money” suddenly coming from that hasn’t existed in 3 years? Will there be a Labor Day telethon?

Two top 15 classes to be a basement dweller. A top 5 SEC class this year and he’s 2-10. Stop it

I’ve seen enough of your posts, if you have any education, you should be embarrassed.

There is too much talent on this team to be 2-10 in conference. I’m not saying that we need to be Duke level but Sears, V. Miller, R. Miller, Collins, Chest and Carter are guys who could get meaningful minutes for most programs in the country. There is not a lack of talent on this team.
Even if you give McMahon more $, who is to say he would be able to close with all of the intended targets? His fan club on here loves to say that he’s great at high school recruiting yet he missed out on an elite prospect that is from only 80 miles away.
The Mickey Loomis attitude of Woodward is frustrating and rather insulting of the intelligence of the fanbase. If I were a season ticket holder, there’s no way in hell I would renew. The product has been and will continue to be subpar under this current leadership.

Listen, I get whey your saying
but if there is a direct relationship between NIL and Success, and there appears to be one, I would try that route first before firing the coach
But there isn't one. He isn't a good coach.
You can find good players and coach them up to a least be 500 in the league.

This is what I’m trying to figure out. He signed a top 5 SEC class and still isn’t close to being competitive. What does increasing the NIL budget do?
Posted on 2/17/25 at 7:16 pm to GeauxTime9
It does nothing and likely won’t increase by any significant amount. It’s a PR stunt, damage control. I mean we have a top 5 national recruit right in our backyard coming out next season. If we were “increasing our NIL to attract elite players” wouldn’t he be the one guy you’re going get? But no, he’s going to Houston

Told everyone this yesterday that the word was MM was coming back and that NIL will be much more prevalent. I think this was the best move possible. If we can keep what we have, and then add a couple of elite guards (especially a PG) we could be really good
Except he is not a good coach...
You could give this jackass the Pelicans roster and the would still be at the bottom of the SEC

I don’t agree with this decision at all. It makes me sick.
But I’m going to go with a business analogy that I’ve followed for years. If you give your employees everything they can to be successful and they aren’t, that’s on them. CMM won’t be able to say, LSU hindered my ability to be successful, and LSU will be able to say, we gave you everything you needed to be successful and you weren’t.
Still, it sucks knowing we’re likely looking at another lost season.

Have we not seen enough??!! Has he not already proven he’s an incompetent coach? What more do we need to see? More NIL money won’t change that I’m afraid. This is really just delaying the inevitable, and hurting the program further.

The McMen never address this either. Cenac knows that Kelvin Sampson is a winner with real accomplishments in the profession and he knows that Sampson will develop him.
McMahon doesn’t make the tournament and runs off and/or doesn’t seem to play certain players.
Tough pill to swallow as an LSU fan but if I were Cenac, I would’ve made the same decision ten out of ten times.

That said, why all of a sudden now, in the last few days do we get this narrative dropping to media outlets? Why didn't you support him before? CoachMc didn't know the portal existed before, that seems silly from the amount of transfers we've had.
Again, this is low hanging fruit for the rubes to swallow.

I thought "if we throw enough money at it maybe we'll win something" was A&Ms strategy

And he’s not the only one that’s going to say no. We’re not going to pay as much as the blue bloods so how are we getting their recruits? This story is a big shiny hook for saps.

He’s still gone after the season.
NIL is about promoting. McMahon does not promote well.
