LSU coach Les Miles deserves better than AD Joe Alleva's ineptitude

What a spectacular miscalculation. What disarray. What a joke. What a time to be Joe Alleva.

With all the sincerity of Valdamort, LSU's athletic director announced Saturday night that “Les Miles is our football coach and will continue to be our football coach.”

Well, at least until Jimbo Fisher says yes.

Florida State's coach ultimately wasn't enticed to come to LSU, so life goes on in Baton Rouge. Well, as much as it can in a world where Alleva had Miles run out after 11 years without much of a succession plan.

See, that's how these things work. If you're going to fire a still-highly successful coach, you sure as hell better have the next guy locked up.

Turns out Alleva really had no idea what he was doing.

Now who deserves to be fired?

Seriously. Fire the MF for the last 3 weeks of drama. He has shat on the football program. If he wanted to strong-arm Miles to make a change or else he could have done that behind closed doors.

Alleva handled the situation very poorly, almost to the point of incompetency.

you guys don't get it. there was never any situation. there was never a word from the administration that anything was going to happen.

it was all the rumor mill.

that alleva didn't don some shining armor and get on a white horse to "rescue" Miles from the rumor mills is what you are upset about.

miles needed to hear that he is accountable and expendable. he heard it. now whether that actually translates into meaningful offensive changes is another matter.

Almost?

He handled it with all the adroit deftness that he demonstrated in handling Duke Lacrosse.

He needs to be shown the door.

PS if he had let miles go without getting the coach he wanted - that would be incompetency.

No you don't get it
They were going to fire miles, miles knew it, his family knew it, everyone knew it. They decided not to in the last minute. What's shocking is they kept him in the dark till after the game.
Alleva is an idiot. He made a joke of lsu in the national media

The article made the same tired arguments for keeping Miles (remember the 90s!), but it was totally correct about Alleva... he is a disgrace as an AD and LSU was as dumb as frick for hiring such a piece of shite.

I think a change was needed because Miles is regressing, but frick it. Turns out the administration is way more inept than Les.

I was never a fan of Alleva to begin with. The way he has handled this situation is really infuriating. It was already a sensitive matter to fire one of the most beloved and successful coaches in the programs history, but he handled it in the most inhumane and undignified manner possible. The entire nation is laughing their arse off at us and I'm just sick of it. If anything he's divided the fanbase even more and made it even harder to get fire Miles in the event that it happens. Alleva needs to be shown the door now

Aleva handles the athletic dept the same way LSU Athletices has been run for the last fifty years.

He handled it with the same "adroit deftness" that Miles handles "offense". Miles should have been shown the door after the Arkansas game in "14".

I think Alleva is the scapegoat here. It just seems to be to be too simple to look at him alone and say "he did all this"

Especially when the only public statement he made up to this point was that a decision would not be made until the end of the season which is exactly what happened.

I think if the truth eventually comes out of what really went down most people will see Alleva wasn't this all-powerful force during all this.

No. Alleva could have made a statement to quash or at least limit the rumors. He didn't.

If he's a scapegoat, then he needs to be turned into chevon and served up on a platter.

I think you may be on to something. Miles said Alexander told him he was staying. If this was Alleva's decision why was the president breaking the news to him.

Who is to say he didn't do it behind closed doors? I would bet big $$ Alleva or anyone from LSU administration was NOT the source of the leaks.

I would bet Jimbo's agent and boosters who can't keep quiet are the sources. Sexton makes the most sense bc it would drive up the price for his client from both sides.

Hell Miles' agent prob did the exact same thing with the Ark courtship a couple of yrs ago.

It's pretty simple, really. When you initiate a high-stakes power play like Joe did against Les, then someone wins and someone loses. The loser loses his job.

How can you expect Les and Joe to work together from now on? Les owns him. It's just a matter or time until Joe is moved out.

And within a year of that, Les will quietly leave for another job. The environment is too poisoned and the fanbase is too divided for there not to be a big change.

Les Miles' team not showing up for 3 very important games in November and then beating a shitty A&M team gets Les carried off the field. We got much bigger problems than the AD.
