NCAAM Statistics Page
That is absolutely incredible, our length and defensive effort will take us very far. If the offense can avoid slow stretches like last night the sky is the limit for this team.
BTW if you click on the defensive stats it says we are 3 but that page hasn't been updated

Much better defensive effort this year compared to last year

I love watching this team. Finally have the size needed to make a serious run in the tourney.

Defense isn't streaky like offense. The biggest thing will be if Lsu runs up against a batch of refs that want to call a bunch of ticky tack fouls. Like when it's obvious that they are abusing Kentucky and the SEC tries to save the day.

LSU hasn’t played a good team yet. Let’s see how we do against a ranked opponent 1st.

Can you make a comparative analysis of the LSU schedule versus, for instance, the other top 20 defenses? Or is it just your knee jerk reaction to splash cold water on any positive LSU news?

The test will be when we play a team that knocks down some open 3s against us. Thats the one weakness i see of our defense.

Ya think? Probably the understatement of the year. They’ve gone from two straight season of being one of the worst major conference defensive teams to maybe the best in all of college basketball

LSU is ranked 2nd in defensive efficiency…which adjusts for the level of opponent

1 LSU 53.7
2 Virginia 55.8
3 Baylor 56.4
3 Texas 56.4
5 Houston 56.4
LSU has a better SOR than all of the other teams listed, by a large margin actually.
LSU has a tougher SOS than Baylor, who also has not played a ranked open yet (today they do).
UVA, Texas and Houston all lost to the only ranked opponents they played.

Oh and by the way LSU beat Baylor by 6 in that closed scrimmage in late October.

And each of those teams gave up more pts when they played good teams. The duke’s and Kansas of the world play harder schedules thus gives up more points. It’s the same way many of you talked about uga defense in football. It’s the result of poor offenses they played. Let’s see how that defense holds up in sec play Bc will Wade only plays weak ooc teams.

True but adjusted defensive efficiency factors that in - and what are we ranked in that?

I wouldn't say Penn State, Wake Forest and Georgia Tech are weak, they're solid middle of the road P5 teams. And Ohio's not a bad mid-major.
This team definitely has holes on offense, which could keep them down. If we had 1 pure 3 pt shooter, a guy who is money on open looks, I think we could be a Final Four team.

Crazy how much of a turnaround they had considering their trend in the last few years. Impressive work by Wade and the team. Defense is 50% skill and 50% effort. A lot of players only care about one side of the court so seeing Wade get this type of effort out of the players is great.

What stood out to me last night is how many shot clock violations we caused. And had a couple more defensive possessions that would have been but we made silly fouls with like 2 or 3 seconds left. Weirdly, those turnovers are bad for our offense, but with that much extended intensity it obviously forces bad shots with the clock running down so we can get out and run in transition.
Seems a few things have come together perfectly for this:
1) buy-in
2) athleticism/length
3) rotation of 7-8 guys that keeps everybody fresh and without any drop-off
4) maintained focus and intensity
Just really impressive job by Wade and the players. Will be interesting to see how we play in an actual road game, though. Defense travels and will keep us in almost every game, but will it be enough to win at Auburn, for example, if we shoot like we did last night.

Defense travels! It isn’t the sexiest to watch, but know what is. 16 point victories on the road. That’s sexy and will work come tourney time.
