Well said ^^^^.
There’s hypotheticals and there’s reality. After 4 years there’s only one reality and it’s that McMahon hasn’t delivered.
If you know the game of basketball it’s not hard to see all of the same flaws that plague McMahon’s teams each year. Turnovers, rebounding, 3-point shooting and 3-point shooting defense. All of these were on display last night.

Again, it's not a defense of McMahon because we shouldn't be in a position to be non-competitive in conference because one guy gets hurt.

Well this is just incredibly misleading
We have been without our most expensive “$3M” player for the start of SEC. Most people would say we would be 3-3 or 4-2 if he was healthy.
See what happens the rest of SEC with a healthy DJ Thomas
Wait. Wasn’t that the excuse last year when Reed went down. Kentucky lost their PG for the season.
Thomas was back last night. He didn’t seem to help the rebounding stat as we gave up 24 offensive boards and got blasted 50-30 on total rebounds.
Year 4, there are no more excuses. This team is soft defensively and soft on the glass. We are about 4 weeks away from MM’s fate being sealed, and there is nothing in his 4 years here that gives any hope he can turn it around.

Verge was recently quoted as saying McMahon needed to make the NCAA Tournament this season.

With Thomas we would have beaten UK and maybe TAMU (should have beaten Carolina without him but wound up down 25 at home lol)
It’s still the same unsustainable basketball. I watch us attempt to play offense and almost every possession its “what are we even doing?”
Last night they kept trying to iso MacKinnon 35 feet from the goal, his only outlet a low percentage post entry lob to Nwoko, who like Miller, has deer hooves for hands. FINALLY they started getting Max the ball on the fly off some simple but effective actions that actually forced UF into their defense vs just being able to guard and stay in front and, lo and behold, he knocked down a couple shots. Of course by that point the game was a lost cause.
Can’t rebound. Can’t guard. And McMahon seems to love playing 4 vs 5 on offense because Tamba, like Bailey last season, is completely useless on that end of the floor.
It’s too bad DJ has been out but we’d be 1-2 wins better off playing ugly basketball that would see us as a 1 and done 10 seed type team. That’s our ceiling with McMahon and we can’t even scratch it.

but but but we got injuries.

Kentucky lost their pg and was also missing a consensus lotto pick in the nba draft vs us last week with Quaintance being out
but no one wants to acknowledge this. It’s only about poor us with our injuries

Haven’t you heard? DJ Thomas and Jalen Reed are the second coming of Shaq and Chris Jackson. It’s not fair to judge the team based of the injuries. If if if if if if if if!!!

Those flaws were glaring in year 1. That wasn't a NCAAT team. But it shouldn't have been THAT bad either. Still, it would have been a very bold move to dump McMahon after that season, so moving to year 2 was reasonable. He struggled in the non-conf. portion of the schedule but found a little "success" in SEC play, highlighted by two razor thin 1 point victories over NCAAT teams South Carolina and Kentucky. While year 2 wasn't "good" by any metric, it was improvement. That got him to year 3....which was a disaster. LSU had the lowest point differential in SEC play...meaning LSU wasn't even all that competitive. THAT should have been the end. Every rational and objective person knew that. But in what has apparently become an LSU tradition, the administration gave the coach another unnecessary year to fully sink the program into apathy. It happened with Johnson. It happened with Jones. Now it's happened with McMahon.

Ive been as big of a McMahon supporter as one can be, its time to move on and try someone new. The program is stale. We need someone with energy.

How could one reach any other conclusion at this point other than to fully expect LSU to lose every game?
Posted on 1/21/26 at 10:46 am to tigerbait17
This level of consistency is not found at many programs. Just needs more time.

Agreed
And at the same time, this is prob for the best as itll help make clear at the end of the year what needs to happen….barring a late season run

This! Both can be true….McMahon can be a not so great coach and losing Thomas is a huge hurt. Losing one of your five starters is killer, no matter who the coach is….and he is our best player. The few close games we lost bc of a press would have been wins if he was there to handle the ball and run the offense.

Yawn. This guy needs to start winning. The excuses are tiresome.
Btw, Thomas played last night…..and we still lost by 18.
