This is true to a degree, certainly for SEC baseball and absolutely for LSU baseball. Changing dynamics in MLB have also contributed to the rise in college baseball.

So anything saying he wouldn’t do something in the sport today is just dumb

It's incredibly dumb, but that is not the same as saying he would probably not be as dominant.

The fact that he built LSU into what it is from the haphazard program it was when he got here says all you need to know about Skip.

Fan base is really showing its arse. Yes it’s a bad season. But not only did we win 2 of the last 3. We had #1 recruiting and portal. Started season top ranked. Everyone thought we were going to be awesome this year. It just didn’t happen. We obviously have the coaching, team did not pan out.

You'd take it no question

Doesn't mean you can't have questions or concerns about the year that went off the rails

If we are all being honest we would admit that winning 2/3 in this era is far harder than it was in the 90’s and early 2000’s.

Skip will forever be the goat but if he were in charge today he would not replicate 5 titles in 10 years.

And if someone had said after 2014-2016 Les era in football that we’d have a coach who would deliver us the greatest season and team in college football history but we would crater off a cliff in the following two seasons we all would have taken it.

It doesn’t mean O was a good coach. Jay now has three bad teams out of 5 at LSU. At a certain point the highs become the aberration and the mediocrity the norm

A 2 seed that nearly wins an away regional isn’t a bad team. Thats flat out fricking dumb.

Started out the season like 4-12 in conference play and needed a late surge to even make a regional. Proceeded to not advance in the tournament.

That’s an incredibly mediocre season for a sec program, and a below average one for LSU.

Mediocre =/= bad.

Down season for LSU =/= bad team.

Like I said, it’s a fricking dumb thing to say.

Winning 17 SEC games and making a regional final in a bad team? Some of you people are ridiculous.

he staff obviously misplayed the situation but it seems ridiculous in the portal era to have it open up while teams are potentially hundreds of miles away playing in a super regional or in Omaha playing for a national title.
quote:

Yes the portal window in college baseball is absolute bull shite and needs to be changed asap

Yeah, it's bad. This was the math I did in another thread.
quote:

The calendar needs to be fixed. The portal opened on June 2. LSU was playing games until June 23, with 13 of those days (June 10-June 23) being in Omaha. The Draft Combine is June 13-17. Then the draft is July 13-15. It's not like football where you can host guys for weeks and weeks while still playing in the post season. Guys you want are likely playing the first weekend. That leaves you with about 5 days to really talk to guys between game/travel schedule prior to Omaha.

Then imagine if you're looking at a guy playing on the second weekend (16 teams). You get what, a day with them before Omaha? If everything lines up perfectly?

Teams that sit at home should not get a 10 day head start to recruit players because they faltered. It will (likely) help us this season, sure. But it was ridiculous that Tony was doing in-home's with Landon Mack last year while Jay was stuffing DVH in a locker 1000 miles away.

That was a different season, retard. But of course you didn't know that.

The difference between a one off national title and 2 in the first 4 years in the program is so astronomical you couldn't even begin to wrap your head around it.

He's had one bad team.

2022 - decent team left with zero pitching depth and no quality SEC starter. An out away from hosting a super. - DECENT TEAM
2023 - national title - ELITE TEAM
2024 - replaced 6 position players and entire starting rotation, an out away from hosting a super. - AVERAGE TEAM
2025 - national title - ELITE TEAM
2026 - replaced entire rotation, injuries, portal additions didn't perform, missed tournament - BAD TEAM

So in 5 years he had one bad team, when you actually look at the facts of the situation and don't act like a toddler.

I agree. Short answer. We lost our top SP to MLB Draft & didn’t have 3 solid SP to keep it rolling. And misses on defensive evaluations. I trust Jay sees even more of the why, including early season scheduling & it will get fixed. We don’t have to like it. 2 things can be true at the same time.

I would but I'd still be unhappy about the stinker and IMHO reasonably so.

We are not at that point though. If we have two more years of this or something the discussion may be warranted. As of now he’s literally one of the top accomplished coaches in the sport. So it’s dumb to just assume mediocrity is his norm. If you can name more accomplished coaches go ahead.
