LSU Band Director, Roy King, reportedly locked out of his LSU email account

I heard this and figured it was a rumor. So, I sent him an email to confirm. He has yet to reply. Doubt that it is true.

Roy King was pressured to turn over his $1 million/year budget to the School of Music. Tiger Band gets this $ from LSU AD.

F. King Alexander put some dude named Queen in charge at the SOM and gave him orders to get the cash. King refused. They opened an investigation on him to find whatever they could in order to remove him from the position.

If and when he is replaced, the person who replaces him will give the budget to the SOM and the Tiger Band folks and Golden Girls will see their scholarship/stipends (which are small but they practice their @sses off and can't really hold down jobs and school) filtered, reduced and perhaps taken away.

All so the School of Music can get their grubby paws on the money, which in effect is having the LSU AD spend some of its budget on subsidizing the SOM thanks to FKA's boy.

In essence, King sent a Queen after King and held his job for ransom.

I'll tell you this... I went to Bama last year and didn't really see or hear their band. What I did hear was Lil Jon and Scott Cochran's voice blasted over the loudspeakers from the second the play was dead until the next snap. I will never go back because of this reason; well, that and because I hate Tuscaloosa. Anyway, I bring this up because LSU likes to duplicate and one-up the best teams in the country. So if that's the case, get ready for the Tiger Band to take a back seat and get ready to hear a lot of Lil Jon next year.

I've been trying to defend the guy but the word I have is he will probably be brought down due to "a personnel matter" that was reviewed due to "allegations that policies [were] violated" that "rumors about budget changes and alterations in scholarship awards" are "not true."
youre kidding yourself if you don't think this started about money. The SOM has been after tigerband money for a long time now.

GFunk, you nailed it. I 've heard as well that this is about the SOM making a money grab & the Golden Band will suffer. It's not a personnel issue per se. I know the AD is getting questions from band donars as to where exactly any designated funds will be going in the future. The band had no limit on the number of hrs they can practice & they are out there for hrs & hrs, well beyond the number of hrs athletes are allowed. So, reduce their stipends, keep the long hrs, and how many band members will stay for the long haul? The GB loses, LSU fans lose as well.

I was in TB in early 90s when Roy was Grad Asst. His college career as band director is toast. I feel bad for him.

frick F. KING ALEXANDER!!

His arse should of been gone before Roy King.

Roy King put in his time at LSU. Alexander hasn't and is a piece of shite. Ever since that spineless weasel, pencil neck, fear mongering sonofabitch has been in charge, LSU has been a laughing stock of a university.

Bucha clowns.

Terrible news. Sorry to read this.

I am hoping the program can recover and thrive with whoever the replacement may be.

Horrible.

It was always my wish to see the most deserving candidate, Linda Moorehouse, take the position of DOB. When that didn't happen I knew the band was in trouble for the long term. Glad Roy got the job because he is a TB alumni and closely aligned with ensuring the rich history and tradition of LSU/Tigerband were upheld, but again, it always seemed the SOM was after our money from the Athletic Dept.

Sick to hear this because Roy King was one of the most dedicated LSU employees youll ever find. He would have stayed and retired at LSU all while ensuring the band was top knotch.

They truly need to get a unique candidate who is VERY familiar with tigerband traditions, i.e. Linda (which will never happen) or a previous grad assistant-Corey Spurlin who's now DOB at auburn? But at this point I doubt a big name or successful director wants to come in to this position considering the heap of shite our administration is.

Dude - not kidding myself, just relaying the company line from the higher ups.

The funny thing about any money grab is that those who may be doing the grabbing will be finding their fists empty because the AD won't let the likes of bassoon players take funds intended for the game-day experience.

Exactly.

I would tell LSU to FO if they came asking me to take that job. It's a toxic situation.

That's why Linda left and wanted no part of it. Wish Wickes would have had more of a say-so, Linda would have been the choice.

But no, LSU takes the route that makes the least bit of sense. Typical.

Sadly, I wouldn't come here if I were Corey, either. He's got it made at Auburn (which IIRC that's where he went to undergrad) and has done a really nice job there. He was GA my first couple years in TB.

I just hate this for current TB members as well as the tradition that all of us TB alumni worked our asses off to preserve and carry on. Everyone in TB takes this very seriously and largely in part due to the leadership who taught us that we were part of something much bigger than we realized. They were right. And it'll be tough to get someone who really, truly understands the unique nature of the TB traditions as they relate to our beloved football team.
