32 coaches in 128 years. Doing the math, LSU averages a new coach every 4 years. Does BK stay longer than 4?

You're including the 1800s and 1900s when we had a new coach every year? Seems relevant

Depends on if he wins a NC.

also likely includes Bo who didn't get to coach a game

The average coach only stays 4 or 5 years at one school. Brian Kelly isn't the average coach though and will only leave lsu after 4 or 5 if he's accomplished his goals and is ready to retire then

Does it count Hal Hunter who coached one?
Same number as our first coach, Chemistry Professor CE Coates.

Pretty spot on...
since 1990...
1991 - 1994 - Hallman (4 years)
1995 - 1999 - Dinardo (5 years)
2000 - 2004 - Saban (5 years)
2005 - 2016 - Miles (11 years)
2016 - 2021 - Orgeron (5 years)

Only way any coach leaves LSU:
1 Go to pros
2.Go to Alma mater
3.He's losing
4.He's retiring
In this case #4 is only way he's not here after 4 years.

Check your counting. Dean gave Hallman 4 fricking years.

4 Years for Hallman not 3.

We had 3 coaches in the past 21 years for an average of 7 years. Kelly was at ND for 12 years and is 60 years old. I believe he will coach as long as he wants and retire here.

It’s irrelevant and not even a remotely interesting use of math. Just because you CAN math, doesn’t mean you SHOULD math.

Florida has had 4 in the last 8 years
Posted on 12/1/21 at 11:08 am to dbroussard
5 Coaches coached a total of 1 year (Prior to 1922)
5 Coaches coached a total of 2 years (Prior to 1922)
1 Coach never coached a game because he died (Bo Rein)
8 Coaches coached a total of 3 years (Prior to 1935)
If you discount Hal Hunter 1 game & Bo Rein (died) LSU has had 12 head coaches since 1935 that averages out to 7 years each coach.

Unless he is dead I see no way he doesn’t at least stay 5 years

13 in the SEC era (not counting Rein)
Bernie Moore
Gaynell Tinsley
Paul Dietzel
Charlie Mac
Stovall
Arnsparger
Archer
Curley
Dinardo
Saban
Miles
O
Kelly
5 of the 12 who have coached a game all occurred within a 18 year period
3 of them could have stayed much much longer but left
2 others had runs over 10 years
It’s really not that crazy

A lot of people have a strange obsession in perpetuating this narrative that LSU and its fanbase has created this crazy pressure cooker situation for coaches, when the reality is, we are pretty much no different than anywhere else, and we've actually given a lot of people a lot of leeway and probably put up with a lot of shite from people making lots of money that we never should have put up with.

The key word here is “average.” Great coaches stay as long as they like it there. Nobody fires a great coach. They leave of their own volition.
For example, good to great coaches at Bama (Wallace Wade, Frank Thomas, Bear Bryant, Gene Stallings, Saban). All of them won Nattys. Average length of stay - 13.6 years. If you take out the ridiculous amount of Bear and Saban, it’s closer to 6 or seven years. Their over 35 years between them kind of skews the numbers.
Compare them to meh to bad coaches (Mike Dubose, Dennis Francione, Ray Perkins, Bill Curry, Mike Shula, Mike Price, Joe Kines). None won a Natty, but some went to bowls. Average time 2.85 years.
All depends on expectations and how well they meet those expectations
I even left some coaches out before and after Bear that didn’t win and didn’t stay long.
ETA: Just using Alabama as an example because they are the winningest program in history. You can look at any of the so-called “blue-bloods” all the way down
