Mayor Broom is a big LSU supporter.

You'll forgive me if I doubt that. She only shows up for photo ops, like at the national championship celebrations.

She's not even a Louisiana native. Isn't she from Chicago?

She was part of the LSU community before she got elected to office. I did not say she was born in South Baton Rouge. Most of the faculty and their families at LSU are not from Louisiana. The people who teach and work at LSU are part of the LSU Community. It really isn't that hard to understand.

The mayor has turned downtown night life into a ghost town…she and John Delgado hated each other when they were both on the city council…. When she became mayor all his bars on third street closed….
She is only supporting this because she wants votes in the election….

Part of me thinks unlike any major projects in BR, this one might actually get going quick and be done sooner than we expected.

If it’s LSU related, these projects get done.

It really isn't that hard to understand that she is a shitty mayor and Baton Rouge has gotten progressively worse under her watch.

It’s private money related so yes there’s a chance it’ll get done quickly.

Isn't that the reason any politician does anything?

Yeap. Everything that could have held this up is out of the way now. Next step is the RFP process for developers, and interview selection. This thing is moving guys. Relax.

God forbid we bring BR into the modern era of amenities. Don’t frick this up

Problem with stuff like this is a lot of people want to meddle and money tossed their way.

the good thing is LSU doesn't have to go through state rules to get it done
TAF will get it built far quicker then waiting on the state to approve it - it's why LSU still doesn't have a library

The city and school alike desperately needs this arena, glad most of the council seems on the same page

interested in seeing the corresponding hotel plans

I haven't really followed this whole thing. What happens to the River Center in this scenario?

Much of the River center will be redone to add more Convention Space capacity. This will allow Baton Rouge, in theory, to be able to get more conventions that are mid-size. That of course will help hotels, restaurants, and other businesses related to the Convention Industry including Tourism (Visit Baton Rouge is behind it) and the Baton Rouge Chamber of Commerce is behind it. I think the arena (what was the Centroplex back in the day) will only be able to hold an event no more than a few thousand thus all large Concert type events will use the new LSU arena.

So you have an LSU, The Chamber of Commerce of BR, Visit BR (Tourism), The Metro Council and TAF all on the same page. That doesn't happen to often.

From what it appears, Private Developers will build it, and LSU will sign a 30 year Lease with the Title Transferring at the end of the Lease (Finance Type Lease) to LSU. A very common type of Leasing arrangement.

It becomes the convention center of the south and people flock to it to enjoy the surrounding amenities of fine dining, bars, tourist attractions and airport access offered by the bustling nightlife already in place in downtown.. and Nola conventions activity does…

lol

The hopes is they put in a new hotel dress up the convention center and suddenly downtown becomes a popular convention center location..

I think the goal is to have the River Center be redone and expand Convention Hall Capacity and not try to make the arena part larger. With increase Convention center capacity (hall space), Baton Rouge can compete for larger Organizations that have their annual meetings at different cities around the country each year. Baton Rouge can use the late fall and spring dates when weather up North is still quite cold and snowy and attract conventions.
