Just got an alert from WAFB. No details on who voted which way. But it cleared this hurdle, which could have gone the other way, knowing the metro council.

Wednesday the council voted 10 to 1, with Councilmember Darryl Hurst abstaining and District 2 Metro Councilmember Chauna Banks in opposition. Since the start of the project Banks said she was not in favor of a new arena. Instead Banks said the River Center, a city controlled structure, deserved more attention. She also says the project was exclusive from other city stakeholders like Southern University. In rapid succession, she questioned developer Charles Landry on whether the arena’s proposal is legally sound.

Is Chauna Banks still on the council? If so, I bet she voted against it.

Yep. New arena for LSU = racism.

But she doesn’t care about teedy breaking laws huh or imagine fani Williams.

This has the potential to be a home run. Please put this where the golf course is and make it a whole new entertainment district for students and alums to visit. God forbid we bring BR into the modern era of amenities. Don’t frick this up

Yes- this is a once in a generation opportunity to create a modern arena and a brand new entertainment district. It could be a destination area. I hope they plan big and execute well.

It really could be. Not often you have a clean slate to work with in a perfect location…

I am for it too, but it all needs to br properly vetted.
Was it advertised such that we get the best deal or did insiders control things?
Are there guarantees in place to make sure the developer delivers as promised?
I hope the leadership in place is open about the whole deal.

What's in it for her? There must be some angle, because she's no friend of LSU and she's done her best to destroy what's left of the downtown night life.

Mayor Broom is a big LSU supporter. Her husband teaches at LSU and she was part of that community before she got into politics.
