And, that’s not what LSU said either. That 50% reduction would have been paid in a lump sum (think net present value) AND also allowed him to seek employment with no mitigation.

Kelly is in the right here. A contract is a contract and LSU will need to pay

LSU owes Kelly 9.5M/year MINUS whatever he makes at his next job. He’s required to look for work and he has to take a reasonable salary.
Option 1. Get a job for like $5M/year and LSU has to pay him roughly $4.5M/year. Over 6 years he’lil make $55-ish million
Option 2. Take a reduced buyout of say $30M. Take a job paying $5M year for 6 years. Now he’s got $60M total.
Get it? The buyout needs to make sense financially for him. LSU is not going to pay him $54-55M. Never was going to happen. Woodward knew that, but most fans never read the contract.

Do you understand contract law and what a mitigation clause is? Do you understand finance and NPV?

I know how the off sets work. As far as “looking” for a job, millions of people on unemployment “look” for jobs everyday. He could easily say he has decided to retire from coaching and LSU has to pay it all.
