McMahon was left with maybe the most depleted roster in history. Only 3 scholarship players were left on the team when he showed up. Have to give him time to build up talent and depth

Yeah, I think most realistic LSU fans and the AD expected a somewhat slow but deliberate rebuild. He has done a decent job recruiting, but we have depended entirely on the portal for 2 straight years for most of our rotations. It's far from ideal, but if he can keep the sophs and frosh engaged and committed, they should start turning the corner when the young reinforcements arrive.

Disappointing to see how easily they crumbled against a pretty mid team

All i wanted was 6 sec wins. If losing to nicholls wasn’t warning enough, i got news: this team fricking sucks

This was a bad loss. This is not a good Syracuse team. LSU has horrible guard play, and Syracuse abused that tonight. Basically, if a team can shut down Baker, then the offense dies.

LSU shot 9% from three, I’m not even mad. That’s impressive.

Horrible coaching.
Plan should have been for Baker to set up Reed all night.
Instead we decided to let Baker try to take it at the 7ft 4 shot blocker and to brick shot after shot.

At least we got a lot of La guys to transfer in, too bad they all suck.

We made 24 field goals to their 25 and lost by 23 points.

Let that stat sink in.

It's how programs are quickly turned around all of the country now.

Sad part is this team had no answer out of halftime.
Maybe CM can slam his fist on the table, cause in game he showed the same fight his team did. NONE

Again this year our Guard play is horrible.

Even the commentators were talking about how bad we are. What an embarrassment

This was common last season during SEC play. Commentators would harp on basic things that LSU was failing at. Same thing again this season.

If we shoot the season average from 3 we still lose, but it’s a much different game.

The State of Basketball Affairs at Louisiana State University

As a lifelong fan of basketball fan, I am gravely disappointed in LSU’s athletic director Scott Woodward, the coaching staff led by Matt McMahon, and the players of this year’s roster. The effort Scott Woodward put into (ill-advisably) finding a replacement for Will Wade was lackluster at best. As an optimistic individual, I held onto hope that hiring McMahon would lead to having another coach with the cultural outreach and significance, the recruiting ability, and the passion for his players that Wade had. I was wrong. McMahon has done nothing on the court to earn our respect and hope, and has done nothing off the court as well. The lack of adjustments has been appalling, last year Adam Miller was made the sacrificial pawn for a poor scheme, and this year’s victim is Jordan Wright. I cannot only hold McMahon accountable for this, as on-court decisions can be made regarding shot selection and being intentional with the ball to minimize the damage done by being in an incorrect role. Regardless of the chicken or the egg being at fault, the product is bad. LSU is a roster of play finishers with little to no playmaking, or rim defense. Rotations are poor, but players fail to congeal often, regardless of who is on the court. The team as a whole must execute better offensively and defensively, communicating with each other on switches and in the half court offense. There should not be entire games where the players look confused and rushed. The program needs a coach that inspires confidence in our players to be themselves on the court, and needs players that are bought-in to the program’s needs on both a technical and effort level. With Wade gone, the team is rarely going to be the more talented team on the court, it should not be coached and playing like it is. I feel sorry for anyone watching this team.

Just got back to the hotel.

The good:
LSU fans had a decent showing. Several Syracuse fans commented about how impressed they were to see that many fans considering how far LSU is and the team isn’t great.

The Syracuse fans are good people. They took us to the club section during halftime to let my kids pick out whatever food they wanted and bought them some Syracuse swag to take home.

The snow was fun before and after the game.

The bad:
Everything else

The guard play is incredibly bad, which sucks because there are some decent pieces in the front court. They just have to create their own shot and they can’t do that consistently or when we need a big bucket.

Syracuse fricking sucks from 3 and looked like the Golden State Warriors. I’m pulling for CMM, but that’s 100% on coaching.

Syracuse fans are awesome. Went up there to watch Fournette in 2015. Had a blast before and after the game with the Cuse baws and bawettes.

Sorry you had to watch such an abortion of a basketball game.

The announcers talked about the mirage of 3-point shooting for LSU. Basically, the MVS game had skewed avgs. before tonight's game.

Wright has been this season's worst disappointment. He was instrumental in Vandy's stretch of 13 wins out of 15 games near the end of last season; he was hitting open threes galore during the stretch and always seemed in control during games. This year his shooting % (particularly of 3's) has been wretched. What was he thinking by jumping on board a sinking ship?

I think 0 SEC wins by this team is optimistic. They're horrible; worse than last year, worse than Trent Johnson's second season and worse than Johnny Jones' last! How could they win a conf game?

He probably wanted a bigger role on offense. He had a smaller role and excelled in it at Vandy. Struggling in his new role here.

That award would go to Stewart. It’s McMahon fault for thinking Wright was something he’s NEVER been in 4 years…a consistent go-to player. He’s a role player capable of intermittent big games. Nothing more, nothing less.

But that, in and of itself, tells the story of this team and program. They are relying on role players to be stars.

My very first takeaway from game 1 was just how unathletic the roster looked relative to other power conference teams. That has proven to be the case thus far.

CBB is weird. Teams can look bad early before getting hot, and vice-versa. But if I’m being truly honest I don’t see anything to give me any glimmer of hope this team is any better than last year. Frankly, I fear it might be worse because they don’t have a go-to player like last year with KJ
