What a bad rule if so. In every other sports it’s where the player when he contact the ball if the ball is in the air. In no other sport is the ball out of bounds until it hits the ground or an object out of bounds. If a player stands in bounds and catches the ball which is in the air out of bounds, it’s a legal play.
