Losing most our OL may not be a bad thing for next year for running

One would think that losing 2 first round OL would be bad for next year, but is it really? Similar to losing Perkins, has mostly helped out defense aside 2nd half. I think something similar will happen for our run game.

If we get a run game going with a new, better OL at running, that opens up pass more. Ultimately, I don't think losing most our OL will be as bad as it sounds, and could actually per chance be better.

I think that the two guards are greatly overrated as evidenced by what happens when we try to run behind them. They are also both former tackles, not road graders. What we have this year is kinda Miles philosophy in reverse. I'm ready for new OGs, it's clear these two can't do the job

Losing our tackles really hurts. The guards we can definitely use some new blood there. Chester at center though is scary, he may get better but man he’s bad

I like both guards, and I think both will be on NFL rosters next season.

In fact, I think the talent on the Oline is exceptional. For over a year I’ve been posting that Will Campbell is overrated as a top 10 pick, but I still think he is a first rounder, which is great. Emery Jones has been ballyhooed on here as a first round pick, and every time I read that I have to rub my eyes and wonder what I’m missing. He is a good college lineman, and I think he’ll make an NFL roster, but first round?

The center is young, so it’s too early to tell. I think he is an NFL talent, but he is still having trouble snapping the ball and being ready for contact. I’m interested to see if he advances next season.

I think the problem with our running game is that the coaches only have so much practice time and they devote most of it to the passing game. Les Miles did the opposite and had much better running attacks with MUCH less talented offensive lines.

Our entire scheme has all the guys standing straight up. How does anyone expect a push to aid the run game without being in a stance? You’re essentially hoping your RB breaks a tackle at the LOS then finds a seam.

Our tackles are excellent but the run blocking has been bad as a whole. And most of that is on the interior lineman Guards and Center. But Will and Emery have not been great in the run game either. If the whole O-Line is not in sync or if there is one weak link it can create chaos for the scheme.

The issue needs to be fixed. Whether thats through personnel or scheme to accommodate the weak links idk but not being able to run the ball is going to be problematic for the rest of the season if it is not fixed.

He's the weak link, but he's over 300 lbs and a freshman, starting at a position that almost always needs an upperclassman. I get the feeling in a few years, he's going to be one of the best centers in the game.

Run game will not improve as long as Sloan is calling the plays. He's awful at incorporating run plays and LSU is basically holding back its offense purely to cater to a QB recruit apparently.

That is problematic and shows major issues with Kelly.

Sloan is a very good to great QB coach, but cannot call plays for a diverse offense. He has killed the run game with his predictability and simplicity.

Until he's out as playcaller, no OL is going to be worth a crap at run blocking.

The offense is the problem. Not the personnel. Run game has been shite ever since LSU went to this wide open pass first offense. There needs to be a better balance of formations and not only from shotgun running only in obvious situations.

I never thought I'd miss the toss dive this much. These modern offenses are fancy and all but sometimes you need hands in the dirt and move people out of the way. It doesn't have to be old school I formation or anything. Just give me a two tight pistol situation. Give the O line time to drive guys back and give the RB a running start.

LSU not being able to consistently run the football with this preseason All World O line doesn't make any sense. I don't know if it was just hype, scheme, coaching or a combination of all of it but it's frustrating as hell. Without a running QB LSU has no balance so it's all on Nuss.

Welcome to modern college football. Pretty much any team that isn't running the under center option does this. It's no specific to LSU.

Totally agree.

I also don't think it's a talent issue, more scheme. Dellinger & Frazier are solid SEC OGs, Sloan needs to find ways to put them in better spots.

we’ll miss the tackles

I think we look to the portal.

recruiting has been good but losing 4/5 gotta give yourself options.

No, Miles’s philosophy was to recruit mostly tackles and then move them to guard if they don’t work out. He specifically explained that to Mike Detillier in an interview. The “recruit all guards” thing is just as much of a lie and a fabrication as the thing about Miles not playing freshman players. 100% BS. This is why we had guys like Herman Johnson, Josh Dworacyk, and Josh Williford at guard even though they were originally tackles.

Eventually, Miles did a really poor job of recruiting offensive lineman late in his tenure and we were forced to play guys like K.J. Malone at tackle even though he was really a guard and not fit to play tackle. It was poor recruiting that caused it; not a desire to play all guards across the line.

I’ve explained this ad nauseam on here already, but I doubt it will ever sink in.

It sounds great but if they're not playing this year, it means they're not as good as the starters. Kinda scary, but it is halloween season.
