Not sure what happened with Prohm and ISU but it wasn’t his coaching. His team was hit the hardest with covid than any other team. Players opting out etc. he went to the ncaa tourney 3 of his first 4 years including a sweet 16

The program was on a downward slide before last season. He had a losing record in 2017. The team was on their way to playing themselves out of the NCAAT in 2018...until they had a unexpected run to win the Big 12 tournament. They were terrible in 2020. Then god awful in 2021.

And to be fair, Prohm was a name I really liked in 2017 when Wade was hired. He had done a great job at Murray St. He had previously coached several years at 3 Louisiana schools (Centenary, Southeastern, Tulane) and knew the gulf coast landscape (he recruited several guys to MSU from Louisiana and Mississippi). I never thought he would dump so bad at Iowa St. But seeing him and Kennedy go from success at Murray St. to inconsistent to below average success at power conf. jobs has to give you a pause for concern in considering brining in a Murray St. HC.

Well just got keep our eyes open over the next few days to see. I don’t expect he’s going to come here but I wouldn’t mind being wrong.

Scott Drew is still my number 1 choice. But I know that’s out of the question at this point.

Everyday it drags on without Scott here the less likely he is to come. Scott Drew has been out of the tourny now a few days. If you are going to get him you have to make a move soon.

I’d like to add to the Scott Drew speculation:
“ Kansas State is finalizing a deal with longtime Baylor men's basketball associate head coach Jerome Tang to become the Wildcats' head coach, according to CBS Sports.”
“Tang has been an assistant on Scott Drew's staff since he arrived at Baylor in 2003. He's played an instrumental role in lifting the program to national prominence in the last 19 years, including the 2021 national championship”.

Does this mean that Drew is coming to LSU and Tang didn’t want to, so he’s bailing???

LSU may be in a situation where "beggars can't be choosers". But there could be other potentially attainable guys I'd look to first. Niko Medved, Steve Forbes. Or, if you like the "young, enthusiastic HC", Bob Richey at Furman. But for a miraculous half court shot they would have been in the NCAAT this season.

Agreed on most of these names. Richey would be someone I’d like and I really think he’ll be moving up soon.

Or… If Drew were leaving Tang would likely be a front runner for the Baylor job, no? Maybe he’s leaving for KSU because Drew is staying at Baylor.

STILL, hiring the Murray St. coach is not, IMO, the ideal choice.

Murray St is one of those few programs that's been equally successful under like 10 or so consecutive head coaches all the way back to the 70s.

Not to say a head coach from there can't be really successful elsewhere. Mick Cronin certainly has been and Mark Gottfried was for a while.

However, mid-major coaches translating is already a gamble and simply winning at Murray St does even less to distinguish Mick Cronin and Mark Gottfried from Steve Prohm, Steve Newton, Tevester Alexander, Scott Edgar etc... than winning at other smaller programs.

I'm convinced someone in Woodward's team leaks fake names to the media. They were so wrong on both baseball and football

No dumbass. It has more to do with these “reporters” not knowing anything but all just picking a name and going with it. Woodward hasn’t let names get leaked on any of his hires and the targets the media talk about are always wrong.

your words are mean and hurtful. but aside from that, you are dense. I wasn't even referencing the reports. I was making a sarcastic comment geared at the ones who cheer for woodward more than the teams themselves. but you weren't smart enough to comprehend my post like many others. it's ok dumbass

Cal has a history, Pearl as well including at all 3 of his stops, kelvin sampson and so on.

Common occurrence for all three, they left multiple places from being fired or running away from NCAA trouble. LSU did the right thing.

McMahon isn’t a “fake” leak. His candidacy is real. Whether he is the front-runner as suggested by Embody I don’t know.

Good point.

I love the speculation……and patiently await the actual hire.

If McMahon runs a clean program, he won't see a fourth year in BR. He will be fired due to his horrendous record during his first three.

Hopefully he continues to do what everyone else does .With NIL being legal this shouldn't be an issue.

If it is McMahon, it is a huge gamble. The big question is can he recruit at this level? The players you recruit to win in the Ohio Valley Conference are not the players you need to win in the SEC. He has never had to recruit against the big boys. None of our recently decommitted players will come back to play for him and it is unlikely any of our current starters with eligibility stay to play for him. Expect mediocrity at best, as it will take him two seasons to fill out the team even with the portal (if he is squeaky clean). This hire is a tremendous reach! Odds are, we have taken a step backwards to the mediocrity of JJ or TJ (he won't be winning the SEC; occasional one and done in the NIT, if we are lucky) Hope he proves me wrong.
