maybe its not time to move on.im willing to give the kid more than a few days ...whats it been ,2 days since the signing deadline.

He’s had all summer.
He obviously had a number in mind. That number was above slot value. He had to know or should have known that if he would not come off that number, a deal might not get done.
At least, he’s known since draft day, since it’s clear he didn’t have an agreement when drafted, which is very uncommon.

You need to understand the out of the box thinking. He has no rights to trade but if Cleveland lets him rot on the vine they come out with nothing. If he signs any options he has are out the door.

Both didn’t hesitate to reaffirm their college commitments. They were fine with going to school. This kid isn’t.

There's also a risk to going the JC route. Mac Marshall tried to go that route in 2014. He originally agreed to a $1.5 million signing bonus but got screwed by MLB's draft pool rules. Went to JC instead of LSU, signed for $750K the following June draft and never collected a major league paycheck. Granted NIL at LSU wasn't an option then. But there was also the possibility that he gets hurt or just never develops. As it was, the latter occurred and professional baseball does what they do.
Then again, the #2 player in that 2015 draft told MLB teams 3 years earlier that he wouldn't sign if he wasn't taken in the 1st round. He wasn't and decided to spend 3 years at LSU eventually signing for a $5.9 million bonus. He will retire with more than $300 milion in career earnings.

This is the JUCO draft and follow that was re-implemented 2 or 3 years ago. Used to be a pretty big thing.
But he wouldn't be able to negotiate a better deal. I was thinking they'd be capped at whatever remaining money they had, but it's even lower than that per your quoted passage. He'd max out at $225,000 going the draft and follow route.

He’s thinkings he’s worth more than 1.7 million.
For reference the HS LHP who got drafted 4 picks later got $2.5 M
and the HS LHP that got drafted 30 picks later got $2.75M
If they were offering him slot they were offering him something way below his actual value
if you want to see a guy who clearly just wants to play ball, Spencer Evans signed for $300k

i’m looking at the Guardians reported signings and their pool value and i don’t know if they even had 1.7 million to pay him.
