Seems like a pattern for Joe "It's not about the truth" Alleva to jump to conclusions.

I'd sure like for the truth to whatever happened at Shady's involving JJ and the other players to come out...I wonder if that'll ever happen.

LSU suspended a QB implicated in a felony. It looks bad for LSU when a representative of the school is involved in something like this. They were well within their rights to take action against him despite the outcome of the case.

In defense of LSU’s much-maligned quarterback, Jordan Jefferson, it does not take a constitutional lawyer to realize that he has not received due process. Further, Coach Miles has, in my opinion, prematurely rendered punishment, as it is not certainly known whether Jefferson is guilty of the alleged battery charges. Perhaps Mr. Alleva’s noted, knee-jerk preference for doing what he feels is “politically correct,” has affected the situation
I am not so sure a constitutional lawyer is needed to make up the rules regarding a college football team.
Miles has ZERO choice but to suspend Jefferson once his arrest was made.

true. I suppose that is one part I can disagree with, when your player is arrested for battery you HAVE to suspend him. it sucks, but it is what it is....
But the justice system needs to get their arse in gear and make a decision on this case or they will end up basically ruining a kids life over this

So you think Miles should have said, "Screw you, Joe. I'm not suspending anyone just because they're charged with a felony or at risk of putting the school in further trouble with the NCAA for rules violations. We got a damn strong team and a want to win at all costs!"
Naw, I don't think so. Miles did the right thing, regardless of what Alleva did.

I feel like one has to look at this case with respect to everyone else that is going on with the football program. Within the past 6 or so months, we've been put on probation for the Akiem Hicks situation, been implicated in the whole Willie Lyles mess, we've had the Russell Shepard housing situation, and now this. We are not in the position to take a laissez-faire approach to our athletic program at this time.

Dr. Warner would be wise to shy away from his Constitutional law and libel arguments as neither are grounded in substance.
Agreed.
That is a whiny letter filled with little insight into the basics of the criminal justice system, the LSU student conduct system, and the management of a major CFB program.
Chris Warner is good for a nice/crazy LSU take on any situation - provided you don't expect his opinion to be shared by anyone outside of our fanbase

No but he loses what he's worked for the last 3 years and that will affect the rest of his life.
He can't get that back.
he made a bad decision - no one forced him to break curfew and (possibly) get involved in a fight...before you say "everyone does it", no they really don't. some people can make poor decisions and it doesn't affect them at all, this time it did for JJ (and the team)...it sucks, but once you run this rabbit, it comes right back to where it started - JJ making a poor decision that he can't undo...

I agree Miles handled this the only way he could once charges were filed he had no options.

“We will not tolerate student athletes whose irresponsible actions tarnish the good name of a great university. LSU student athletes are expected to behave with the understanding that they represent their school, their fellow students and the long history of this program, regardless of the time of day.
It's quite the stretch to take this passage and be critical of Aleva for jumping to assume and assign guilt. If anything, I think the opposite. Warner misses the mark here.

The Constitution does not guarantee the right to play college football. His due process that is protected still seems to be in effect. And the suspension is not necessarily a "punishment," by Miles, just a part of the process of determining the truth. People are suspended--sometimes with or without pay--in all walks of professional life while the facts are sorted out. The suspension is not a punishment, just a removal from the situation while facts are determined. It sucks for Jefferson, but it's absolutely the right--and only--move by Miles.
If Jefferson does, in fact, turn out to be innocent of all these charges and winds up being a "victim," then the perpetrators of those wrongs will not be Miles or Alleva--or even the Baton Rouge Police Department--but rather the jump-to-conclusions media and, sadly, the all-too cannibalistic LSU fanbase.

Exactly. Miles had no choice but to suspend.
Alleva had a choice to chose his words wisely and he didn't.
Miles can live with the obvious decision to suspend an accused felon.
Alleva can only close his eyes and hope he doesn't wake up back in Durham, NC.

Stay in your room after the 10:30 bed check curfew and you're all good. Don't be at a bar where drunk people are after midnight and you're all good. Avoid altercations with smaller drunk people and you're all good. Listen to ALL the warnings you have been given about avoiding situations like this and you're all good!

Nice letter.
But I disagree.
#1 Jefferson was arrested and charged with 2nd Degree Battery. Any other student athlete charged with this would likely receive the same punishment.
#2 He needs time to clear his head and defend himself.
#3 The team doesn't need the distraction.
#4 Jordan Jefferson is no different than any other student athlete. Being a senior doesn't matter. Period.

Bah, I will take this with a grain of salt. He has a Ph.D in Urban planning, is a wanna be politician, and is a LSU homer. He's a smart guy but he is way to invested in this issue.
