Lets talk LSU defense

This defense has a chance to be as good as the 2003 defense when Saban was the HC. They play angry and fly to the football. Hell Clemson, by the time the QB handed the ball off he was smothered. Our edge rushers could be the best in the SEC. There is depth also on the DL. The secondary is awesome with Benefield and our LB's, well, is a given. Could be the best with Weeks and Dottery. I know its early and time will tell. But Blakes Bandits are looking pretty damn strong.

I think we are better for sure but the defense looked elite against Clemson last year. Need to see a few games especially against a team with a rushing QB! Was fooled last year but this team has much better talent and more experience!

Know how I know you don't remember that era?
That was the #1 defense in the country with Marcus spears, Chad Lavalais, Kyle Williams, and Marquise Hill. There is no comparison. You can stop at the D Line

It’s only one game, but so far the defense is definitely giving vintage saban/miles level vibes. The way they played on Saturday reminded me a lot of 2011, which was the best LSU defense I’ve seen in person

I think Clemson was really bad.

Blake got that shite right that's all I can say.
I am ready for Marcel Reed back in BR to make sure it's real

Blake finally has DE’s that can get home.
He has speed and experience at LBs and another great DB unit. This defense will be as good as we’ve seen since at least 2012

03 was one of the best lines in lsu history

But we also have tons of speed and athleticism on the field. No matter how bad Clemson is they are still a P4 team with more talent than others, their players looked like they didn't belong on the same field as ours.

Perhaps, but its one thing to dominate an opponent because you are athletically superior and entirely different when you execute at a high level. We weren't running them down from behind or missing tackles. They never got to the edge and there were always multiple defenders crashing on the ball. DLine contained well and didn't run themselves out of play. There was 1 busted assignment in the secondary, but otherwise tight coverage. No holes in the zones and guys passing off nicely. That product on Saturday was CLEARLY different than what we saw LY against Clemson.
As much as folks have talked about Kiffin being mad about the late touchdown, people havent mentioned Blake on camera basically saying "dammit, you gotta be fukkin kidding me." when they scored. He was just as pissed.
This is different. Buckle up, enjoy the ride. We comin!

You can stop at the D Line
Never understood why so any people felt we had a strong DL with a bunch of inexperienced or unproven players.

In terms of defensive stats, the two games appear very similar. But we were playing a bunch of substitutes through the third and fourth quarters last Saturday.
Also, even with an atrocious offense last year, that LSU defense still ended up 27th in the country. (Ole Miss' 2025 defense was 37th). The defense we fielded Saturday looked more like 2011 than 2025. Time will tell.

If our D can contain Chambliss in their stadium, with their crowd roaring their hatred and with mustard bottles and golf balls raining down on them, they'll be able to handle anyone....
...especially Reed in OUR house.

100%
This is like saying someone is the next Honey Badger.
That defense was so good that it was the only time I ever recall wanting the defense to get back on the field because it was so fun to watch them.

Clemson was not really that bad.
They'll have a decent season. LSU just overwhelmed them.

You're totally right. I just don't have the nightmares of Trinidad running all over us like I do with Marcel

'03's defense was so friggin good. Especially once Landry was inserted into the lineup to allow Travis Daniels to go to Corner. We have had a lot of good defenses but that one, '06, and '11 were just different.

Imagine if you're Reed and you watch the LSU D absolutely maul the OM offensive line and Chambliss - in THEIR house.
Then imagine Reed thinking about having to come to OUR house and face that same D the next week.
We can beat Marcel - at least mentally - by curb-stomping OM the week prior.

My only fear is the a big time qb taking advantage of the dbs opposite pickett and Benefield.. Thats the only weakness but it can be exploited with the right qb and receiver combo

Assuming our front 4 are actually as good as they looked against Clemson, I don't think Chambliss will have much time to try and exploit anything.
And if, somehow, he does get to pick on PJ, we're stout enough on the DL and at LB that we can give him some help.
Don't think for a minute that Blake didn't see that chink in our armor against Clemson. My guess is it's already been addressed. We may not see it against LaTech tomorrow, but I'll be mighty surprised if that same softness opposite of Pickett is still present when we go to Ole Miss.
