Let's close this portal class out (12 total)

We have a great '25 HS class + currently have 9 great portal additions.
I'd like to see us close it out with 3 more, for a total of 12, as follows:
- (OL) B. Moore (Va. Tech)
- (DE) W. Heldt (Purdue)
- SS) T. Byard (S.Fla).
If Bo Davis thinks the Texas DL guy (DL S.Mitchell is a must get, then add him as the 13th portal guy.
Just an opinion.
How do you think this should finish?

I think Heldt is out (Clemson or A&M), but the guy from FSU is better

I think we get Moore. I don't think Heldt wants to play in the SEC. The thinking is he can stack up better numbers in other non-SEC conferences and be more attractive for the NFL draft. No comment on Bayard but we do need safety help. Also, Moscosa is still reporting that LSU is targeting a safety that is on a playoff team this weekend.

14 is a solid number with depth. we need, we are at solid 9 now.

Currently, 81 roster spots are filled for 2025 (maybe 80 depending on how Trey Holly situation is handled by LSU). So, any more than 4 (maybe 5) additions from the portal will mean there will be additional attrition from the current 2025 roster. Remember, the SEC has a cap of 85 for the 2025 season.

When is the deadline to enter portal? Maybe we should wait and see who else jumps in after some teams get eliminated.

The 85 cap is effective beginning of fall camp? Or of the season?
Regardless, in this day and age of the sport you go over that number up until you can’t - foster competition and get as many potential contributors as possible - some guys will quit, sorry this day and age that’s chase a bag elsewhere and transfer out. Then if you’re still over 85 at or on a predetermined date leading up to cutoff, you assess roster then pull scholarships and tell the guys thanks for competing, hit the portal for PT elsewhere with this letter of recommendation or negotiate a NIL payout and ‘walk on’ spot to stay

There are 11,000 college football players in the portal....600 plus with 4 stars or better....what muck up this is...the end of continuity and the beginning of chaos topped off with NIL. Really should end scholarships and recruiting..and from a practical matter makes recruiting less important.

At all times, you cannot exceed the 85, early enrollees (HS or spring enrolled incoming transfers) take the place of those transferring out, those going to the draft and those who have exhausted their eligibility.

Scarborough and Dixon both said they see it being around 15 to fill the rest of their needs. 6 more seems about right. Haven’t even gone through Spring yet, so who knows what the total may end up?
