I cut my hand on the broken goal post as it was paraded around the field. One was going up the damn student section, but luckily it was not thrown over. The part I cut myself on went out an exit I think.

I was also at the following game from halftime to the end. Only game I've ever left with a full pint of bourbon. I walked over at halftime and then LSU played the worst half of football I'd seen since the 1992 season, against Ole Miss no less.

A student stole the banner and threw it into the student section.

The banner was a king-sized bed sheet that said "Work 'em Silly Gators" and we tore it to shreds. I ended up with a piece about 12 inches long and 2 inches wide. I still credit that moment with getting the student section so fired up that we never let up the whole game.

Cecil Collins suffered a career ending injury in the game, making it perhaps the worst victory in LSU history.

Well LSU beat Vanderbilt 7-6 that year that Collins broke his ankle/leg

Crap. I missed them both. With that many people there looks like I would have made at least one of them.

That made up our minds that we should storm the field. When they came down, it was on. Then came the wishbone, they snapped surprisingly easy.

Did y'all watch the one go up the student section? I'll never forget the feeling that those students were about to toss that damn thing over the side. That would have been the end of it, many people would have died...I'd still love to know how the mob mentality was overcome. It doesn't sound like the right thing to do, but I feared the worst was about to go down.

Had a night wedding to attend of all places, Lafitte, LA. Stayed in car until last second listening on radio. Groomsmen kept looking at me for hand signals as I walked in for an update. (Just fyi, marriage ended in divorce after about a year later... )

I still have the ticket stubs and a piece of the field.

Only better game I've seen in person is the Florida game in 2007

Yep. It happened in the game that preceded Florida. With Cecil out no one gave us a chance, especially considering how Florida had pounded us in 96.

The only "big" that I actually attended.

Also, it was the first time I'd set foot in Tiger Stadium without having a drop to drink (well, since I was like 15 years old anyway).

We'd gone to Pat O's the night before with another couple that came with us, and me and the guy in that couple got as drunk as two people could get. I hurt SO bad that Saturday.

It seems like I rallied after the game though.

Parents brought me to that game a couple days before my 7th birthday. I remember my dad handing me to a police officer on the field and he let me stand by him and watch the mad house down there. I was walking to the car with my parents and said it was the best birthday present ever.

I still think it is
