depends on the circumstances involved...i say Saban building a national championship level program after the decade of the 90's is more impressive. Lets compare hardware...both have 2 sec titles and 1 national championship. Now what is more impressive doing that in 5 years taking over a mediocre program or doing it over 10 years taking over a team that won a national title a few years earlier?
If Saban had stuck around for a decade we could have this discussion. Les had the longest period of sustained success in LSU history. It's not really a debate, if we're being honest. This is in no way attempting to downplay the role Saban played in resurrecting and building LSU football into a power.

Dinardo brought the magic back and Saban set the bar.....Everyone else has to just maintain it.

One might ask the question: Why do you feel the need to consistently shite on Miles
Why do you feel the need to constantly prop him up? His ability to coach was obviously deteriorating... while he had the best run in LSU history, his stubborness and refusing to adapt caused the program to take a step back his last couple of years; he deserves criticism for those seasons just as much as praise when he was at his best.

No. He finally ran out of Saban fuel. He was the exact same coach the day he left as the day he first set foot in BR. Don't fool yourselves.
He let his OC coach right up until the disaster that was 2008. He was definitely different from 2005-2008 vs. 2009 and beyond in that regard.

How does denigrating him raise you up? How does this in any way make you better?... I hope your ego is getting the expected boost.
One might ask you the same thing about every post you've ever made to anyone on this board. You never take the time to praise anything good about LSU, Miles included. You only talk shite to those who don't. Never one positive thing is ever posted by you- And you think that makes you some sort of righteous, white-knighting superfan. You're miserable.

There's a reason he couldn't even land the job at Purdue.

After '04 it would've been easy for the program to tank like many others have, and fans should be happy for the Miles period.
Although in place for only last 25yrs or so, he is the only coach to place LSU football in 2 Nat Champ contests, besides the longest success period.
For all the shite he gets about the offenses under him, he owns the LSU top 4 spots in Scoring Offense (IIRC all under different OCs), and probably a lot of other LSU historical stats I don't have the time to waste on deaf ears about.

Les did what he was supposed to do...especially with what he had to do it with.
When he was no longer producing with the TALENT he had he was replaced. He had the BEST TEAM IN THE NATION in 2011 and got demolished because of coaching.

there is no way anyone can rationally deny that Les Miles not only maintained The level of success established by Saban, but may have raised the bar further for what we expect of a head coach.
Les Miles gave LSU personality and character that was interesting to a national audience. All the espn car wash segments, and clips of les's pressers, and highlights of his in-game antics only enhanced LSU's brand.
At media days, reporters were lining up for LSU not only because it is regularly a national power, but because no one ever knew what Les might say.
Les also presided over a team that has given us some of the most memorable moments in LSU history.
You can knock his win percentage, his stubbornness, even his frustratingly bizarre coach speak. But you cannot deny that he enhanced LSU's brand just as much if not more than Saban.
Much can be said about wins and losses, but more can be said about an invaluable public brand. Which is one of the things most frustrating about the Florida debacle. Our administration allowed LSU's image to be tarnished. But I digress....

That was an opinion dumbass...or couldn't you discern that? Do I need to preface every statement with "this is only my opinion" for you simpletons?

Yeah, I honestly don't believe I've ever seen him espouse an actual opinion or join in a discussion in any meaningful way. He basically just self-importantly rips into anyone that doesn't heap unadulterated praise on Miles and goes on his way.

With the recruiting classes LSU has had we should have been better than 7-4 in bowl games w/2 titles.

LSU was outplayed more than outcoached in that NC game, as in "If the battles can't be won, the war will be lost".

Yeah because bama wasnt just as good. If your premise is that Saban is a better coach than Miles then I don't know anyone that would disagree.

From 2005-2015 there are 3 programs that can match the sustained success of lsu.
During his tenure no program beat more ranked teams than lsu.
No program was ranked in the top 25 more weeks.

Saban set the bar.
Holy shite.
2000- 4 losses
2001- 3 losses
2002- 5 losses
2003-1 loss
2004- 3 losses
Please explain how that is setting a bar. If that's bar setting then the last 5 years of miles surpassed that bar.
Saban started the rise but Miles set the bar from 2005-2012.i agree saban showed everyone what lsu could be with the right coach.

14 pages for this shite?
Still?
Really?
And Good God Rick. Miles will survive if you don't eKnight for him. You realize that, right?

Compared to the talent LSU had before Miles and the rest of the sec west. LSU should have made more than two trips to Atlanta.
Les Miles raised expectations by winning again. And basically having the best stretch of recruiting and wins and losses in the history of the program.
He elevated LSU, regardless of what any one thinks of his ability to coach.
Plus 11 and 07 are two of the toughest schedules LSU has ever played. 11 being the toughest.
He's also one of 2 coaches in the 124 year history of the program to finish AP #1.
So the reason you guys think LSU has some right to winning, is because of Les Miles.
