Is it really necessary for lsu to honor every coach

At some point maybe lsu is the main reason a coach can be successful

You are not gonna honor saban, he wasn’t here long enough

Likely won’t honor miles or O despite a natty

Jay deserves more honor over someone like Mainieri

LOL. His ‘brand’ was frustrating and excruciatingly painful to watch. He also wasted tons of great talent, some of which went on to the NFL success.

“every coach” doesn’t win national championships in football.

I'll never forget the way he screwed over Jarrett Lee in that championship game against Alabama. Jordan Jefferson was playing like shite and we couldn't do nothing right against Nick Saban's well-coached team.
Prior to that game, Jarrett Lee had carried the team to success when Jefferson was benched for stupidity. Then Lee had a terrible game against Bama in the regular season matchup. In comes Jordan Jefferson, and he plays well again.
Now, we're in a championship game...a matchup with us going against the Tide once more. This time for all the marbles! Jefferson has nothing going and we start the second half...with most of us thinking, maybe put Jarrett Lee in and spark the offense. But, no...Les has decided to do more of the same with Jefferson. Sometimes, more of something bad ain't really good.
I felt we should've tried anything at that point. It's like you're in combat against an enemy and your rifle is out of ammo, but your .45 is in the holster and you've got a few full clips. But you decide, screw it! I'll just let 'em kill me. That's what Les did!

I’ll say this about Les.. he was pretty successful even with that vanilla offense he ran. It’s like the other teams knew what was coming and still could not stop it…

Les biggest MISFORTUNE was Rich Rodriquez accepting the Bama job and then changing his mind. Les would have probably won 2 more championships. For sure 2011 and possibly another one without that unfortunate change. So, I always said to myself, it wasn't Saban that stopped LSU from becoming a dynasty, it was that damn Rich Rodriquez.

Taking those wins away makes him ineligible for the CFB HOF, I believe.

I'll defend this statement even though it seems counterintuitive.

Early Les was indeed a fun brand of football. The offense wasn't necessarily exciting but those teams would beat up opponents. Besides Alabama, you knew nobody was going to push us around. The defenses were indeed fun to watch. Winning was indeed fun.

Les' problem is that he failed to evolve with the game. The early 2010's when offenses were evolving Les just refused to do so. 2011 was probably the crescendo of his bygone era even though 2012 had promise and likely a better offense.

I don't know about anyone else, but watching your team get pushed around and out "physical-ed" is just as miserable as watching an inept offense. 2023 was just as frustrating as some of Les' later year teams and we were the #1 offense in the country with the Heisman winner.

We were already behind in mentality in 2006

Has everyone forgotten the Auburn and Florida debacles of ultra-conservative offense?

The spread option had already been around for 8 years at that point and Urban was at Florida. Leach had been running the advanced version of the Air Raid for 5-6 years at that point.

We were WAY behind.

Amazing that a coach would want to put in a player whose history vs. Bama is 24 of 58 with 1 TD and 7 INTs. One of the picks was a pick-6, so he effectively threw as many TDs for Bama as he did for LSU.

The way most rational people look at that is

Sometimes, more of something bad ain't really good.

Jefferson vs. Bama

38 of 57 with 2 TDS and 1 INT

In the national championship game, Jefferson was 11 for 17 with a pick.

I don't disagree. But you could still win with the old brand of football. 2011 is an example.

Would we have won more? Absolutely, but it still worked if you had better athletes than everyone else.
