I’m a fan of him. I’ve watched most of the highlights that included him this season. I guess you caught the ones where he dove and stopped balls that were hit in the hole between him and 1st and threw the runner out? He’s being moved from 2B because Chisholm can’t play 3B. Maybe you’re the one who isn’t paying attention to the MLB.

You proved my point for me. You watched “highlights” you don’t see the plays he should have made and can’t make it anymore. I’m a fan of LeMahieu but I’m also a realist. Father Time is undefeated. That doesn’t make me a hater I’m just telling you he’s not a serviceable everyday MLB player.

He’s a DH at this point
In his last 65 (!) ABs, he has 1 extra-base hit (2B). He averages an extra-base hit once every 25 ABs. The notion of a DH slugging .339 is completely absurd

(Side anecdote perhaps reiterating the thread's theme, after that double he was thrown out at home on a 2-out single)

He turns 37 on Sunday. He was in Mainieri's FIRST full recruiting class. He's just gotten too limited in too many areas relative to their other options and time only moves in one direction. And that's okay, because look at this fricking legacy

4x Gold Glove
2x Silver Slugger
2x 1st Team All-MLB
AL Batting Champ
NL Batting Champ
12+ seasons of MLB service

We're spoiled as a fanbase

He's batting .310 since June 1 and .266 on the season, good enough for 64/780 players in the MLB. How is that washed?

The issue is that .310 stretch (87 ABs) entails only 4 XBH and 9 RBI. He isn't bringing people home and he isn't scoring (further not helped by his declining already-average speed...this will be the only year he was never sent to steal)

"Washed" is a wide spectrum and calling a player that who's still not an easy out is harsh, but death by 1000 singles often isn't winning baseball. And after he's adequately feasted on the XBHs, Father Time will inevitably come for the singles

Yeah players usually make the highlights when they are making above average or exceptional plays.

So you’ve watched all the Yankees games since he returned this season? Why don’t I believe that?

He’s no longer a star. We get it. Nobody is saying that he is. A 1.000 fielding percentage in 143 chances along with 18 double plays. If he was producing runs then he would be playing. Chisholm is producing with the bat but can’t play 3B.

Those aren’t advanced analytics. Pretty basic stuff, actually.

It’s not that LeMahieu wasn’t very good, he just does not come close to reaching the peak & longevity that most HOF’ers do. His first formidable MLB season happened at age 27.

Ryne Sandberg had an MVP & 24WAR before he even made 27, for reference.

Dude, you really have no idea. DJ told the Yankees his body can't handle 3B. They moved Jazz to 3B to give DJ 2B. DJ has been a liability in the field all year, while Jazz has been horrible at throwing the ball. Jazz is a fantastic 2B, which is why they are moving him back.

DJ has been always been offensively but now isn't elevating the ball, so he hits soft singles. He can't run and cost the Yankees a few weeks ago when he couldn't get home from 2B on a deep single.

He’s been atrocious at the plate. He’s either going back to Iowa or they’re finding another option and he’s gonna watch. And he’s currently on an 0-20 run with 1BB

Their lineup is atrocious

He needs to go somewhere he can play 1B/DH. He is striking out almost 25% of the time now and walking less, but he is hitting the ball harder. His .352 BA on balls in play will likely even put (the league average is .298), which will show more regression.

He probably gets signed somewhere but cut again, and decides to hang it up after not getting another MLB offer.

He is hitting 301 since June 1. So, not too washed.
I think his options are limited because his is just a DH at this point. The Yankees thought he was a liability on defense and they already have a DH whom they are paying a lot of money.

A DH can’t hit singles and run like someone in quick sand. He doesn’t hit for extra bases and can’t run anymore. If he wasn’t a LSU Tiger y’all would be thinking differently.

The Red Sox beg to differ.

Masataka Yoshida hits singles. He runs like he learned how to do it by watching You Tube videos.

Been watching the majors for over fifty years. Can't remember a time when the front office types were so smart in pedigree and yet so stupid and reckless in practice.
