Actually, it was Maleveto that was really hated.

Tepper.

LSU brings back the magic. Goes:

7-4-1
10-2
9-3….and then cliff dives

4-7
3-8

All Tepper and the “wait until WR catches ball then tackle him” defense

Why would anyone hate Pelini? He gave us NC level and one NC winning defenses in his first go round.

Yes, the 2020 season was a failure but anyone knowing the truth about that team, shouldn’t blame Pelini. It was entirely on O and Woody.

Woody forced his hire on Ed, who then insisted on shifting his team of 3-4 defensive scheme built players to play a 4-3 and didn’t let Pelini run his actual defense.

202p was exactly what made O an awful coach from the beginning of his time as a head coach at Ole Miss.

Probably Lou Tepper and his shitty Complete Linebacking book (never read the book, but it’s probably a bad read).

And that book ended up on the New York Times bestseller list for a brief time.

All we needed in 2023 was a top 70ish defense and we make the playoffs. House will always be infamous for that garbage

Was only 7 when Tepper was here so I don’t really remember how bad he was but I can buy it

I’ve wondered how much Ryan Clark contributed to Tepper downfall. In that 27-28 loss to UGA, only 2nd half TD for Georgia was a pass Clark should’ve picked off in end zone. He froze like a deer in headlights (I had perfect view in student section).

Defense played decent in Swamp the next week but it became clear players lost faith in scheme as season went on. Knowing how much Ryan Clark likes to stir up stuff…

Everything had been building towards that 1998 season and LSU seemed to have all of the pieces in place to make a real run at the SEC championship.

1998 and 2025 are eerily similar in so many ways. The two worst LSU seasons in my lifetime. Neither was the worst team by any stretch, but they fell so far off a cliff it was soul crushing.

Lynn Amedee was pretty atrocious. I guess Curley gets most of the blame for his tenure, though.

ETA, I just saw this on Wikipedia about him. I didn't know this aboout him, but it basically sums up his entire offensive coaching "mindset" in a nutshell.

quote:

In 1988, he became offensive coordinator under head coach Galen Hall at the University of Florida,[7] where he drew criticism for his strategy to use sophomore running back Emmitt Smith as a "decoy". 1988 was Smith's only season with less than 1,000 yards rushing.

I know he wasn't the worst of all time, but I found Matt Canada to be infuriating.

I think it was the million illegal formation and false start penalties resulting from all the stupid shifts.
