We don't want Harold Perkins our defense last year was better without him.. He doesn't play LB very well and he is too small for DE. LINK

It was the way they were forcing Perkins to play, and you have to let him spy and eat on passing downs. Also, He looked like he learned and watched more when he was injured, just looked like a different player; whether it’s just the right position or development.,, not good for other teams, they will have to account for him on every non-running gap play

It was better without him because they weren’t playing him in the right position. They were asking him to play the position that the Weeks brothers are now playing and he was getting run over and lost in the shuffle.

The rant can’t comprehend context. You are right. The defense was better without him because he was playing out of position and was loafing around half the time. They are now playing him in a role that suits him better and he’s a X factor again.

He is much better this year than last year and a better OLB than MLB. When weeks had play MLB the defense did get better. Perk looks like a first round all American this year at OLB and the defense is better with him there next to weeks lined up at MLB. Two things can be true at the same time.

Perk is obviously better at star, but that's only be cause you have an all American beside him in Weeks.

It's the perfect combo

It was better without him than trying to force him into a spot he couldn’t play…..now at STAR he makes the QB pressure go on this defense in many ways. It’s way better than ever with him at Star.

I said it and I was right. Asking him to play middle-type linebacker in a scheme where he can’t just wreak havoc as a Troy Poumalu type role he was not as good as Weeks or Keys.

With the safety and CB play we have now, he can play the Star role and he’s an absolute fricking menace. This particular defense is significantly worse without him. Last years defense was slightly better without him.

They played he out of position where he would be most effective. I love that he's getting to roam the field and blitz from all areas of the field. Perfect for his abilities and speed! Im excited for once in a very long time about the defense.

RAISES HAND

I don't deny it. He was no middle linebacker he got lost in pile of players. He needs to have space to roam and this year at the STAR position he has it.

Because they didn’t have him in the right position. He isn’t a linebacker.

Of course he’s a linebacker. He played linebacker against Clemson and filled gaps and stuffed runs. He also played safety. That’s apparently what that Star position is - a hybrid LB/Safety.

That’s not a knock on Perkins, just that he’s too small to play inside.

Perkins is not too small, or too anything, to play ILB. He is 6’1” and 222 pounds. That’s as big as Kwon and Debo were in college. He’s just better being moved around. In today’s game that what makes a defense go - the ability of someone to be used as a swiss army knife. It could be a safety with corner skills, a DE with drop back coverage skills, or a ILB like Perkins who can cover like a DB.

If the scheme is to set Perkins at ILB and leave him there you are leaving a lot on the table, but he’s still good. The fact that Whit Weeks is better at that doesn’t change this. Whit Weeks is better than almost any college ILB.
