No the right idea was to have kiffin who has actually had previous success as HC and A coordinator as head coach and o keep doing what he was doing

Remind me about his previous success as a HC? Last year's FAU season was his best job as a HC. That certainly improved his resume and put him on the fast track for a big job next year. But without that, no top tier program was hiring him and his baggage as HC.

But your criticism should be pointed at Alleva, not coach O.

I dont think O is as horrible as many on here think he is. Is he the next coming of Nick? no but I think he is on par with every other coach lsu has had not named nick or bill.

It is nice for the FAU coach to be putting the LSU coach under his wing.

The timing isn't going to work out for Kiffin this go around. He'll have moved on to a bigger job before the LSU job is open.

This is probably true, but if you look at all the big jobs right now, most would consider it among the most likely to open up soon. Maybe Notre dame but I doubt they want Kiff after suffering through Kelly.

He's going to the national championship twice? Right now there's no evidence that his career will be as successful as the person he was hired to replace

That or the 2011 season at USC. Only two losses that year, and one of those was the crazy OT game against Stanford.

I don’t think he had ever had a losing record in college which involved coaching run the sec (giving Tennessee the only excitement in two decades) and the pac 10.

And then there’s O

He's also left a burning pile of crap behind at every HC job he ever had. So theres that to consider too.

Im not saying I wouldn't take him at LSU, especially with our current options in place and possibly keeping Aranda to run the D, but i'd keep my fingers crossed the whole time.

Lane would kill it here, just as he would’ve had he stayed at Tenn. hell he almost beat bama in his first year with a crappy team.

he'll be a hot commodity if he gets FAU to double digit wins. i was listening to steven godfrey on his podcast and he said kiffin isn't going to leave for just any job though. he wants a big job this go around. unless something crazy happens i don't see any of the elite jobs opening (execpt ohio state and i doubt he would be in play there). if O gets 2019 and fails then kiffin still might be up for grabs.

Why is he doing interviews with a Baton Rouge station during camp?

Coach O and Kiffin are good friends. Coach O coaches at LSU which happens to be in Baton Rouge. Kiffin was rumored and would have been the next OC at LSU if not for getting the gig he has now. They initially had him on the show for an interview about the OC job. It continued from that point.

Where and how would he have ran into Culotta and Tbob?

Coach O and Bobby Hebert are best of friends. TBob happens to be Bobby Hebert's son. You don't think that Kiffin has ever hung out with O and Bobby at any point?

I found it a bit disingenuous when he was complaining how "kids these days, especially quarterbacks, seem to not want to put in the work if they don't get their way and will leave a program very quickly"...considering his track record.

The phrase "learned from his past mistakes" is often applied to justify O;

I'd think it's more appropriate for Kiffin. He's the opposite of O in lots of ways- a brilliant young man who was too arrogant to work within the system, burned lots of bridges early on. If he has matured on the non-football stuff, he's a definite keeper.

O's struck me as a bit of a grinder, who does all the back-room deals and shmoozing to gain support within the system, but is lacking in the football stuff.

It's a little hard to say who's more likely to change their stripes- can O become intuitive as a coach? Can Lane get along with others?

Am I the only one that used to hate Kiffin at USC, Oakland, Bama and UT, but don't really mind him now that he's at FAU? I kinda want him back in the SEC now.

Im in the same boat. Dude can coach if he can keep his piehole shut.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist...

Great interview but it struck me as odd. Why is he doing interviews with a Baton Rouge station during camp? Could it be that he is trying to clean his image up for the LSU fan base. Keep his name out there in case LSU opens up.

But this is strange.
