He made a valid point despite his inability to make the argument clearer.
No he didn't. He's a selfish dumbass.

It is not disingenuous at all. If the donors wouldn't step up to foot the bill, LSU would be stuck with Kelly
The donors stepped up to give him the deal. They understand it's a 10 year deal and committed to paying that for 10 years.
quote:
state dollars would have to pay the buyout
legally. yes.
in reality, no fricking way would that ever happen, which is why it's extremely disingenuous to act as if the taxpayers might be on the hook. LSU athletics is one of the most profitable athletic programs in the fricking country, so much so that they used to give the state money back every year. How many athletic programs give up money to the academics side? The answer is probably 1, only LSU in corrupt Louisiana.
How you like this nugget:
quote:
During difficult budget times for the university in the past, LSU’s athletic department has transferred money to the university. After Gov. Bobby Jindal slashed the state budget, the athletic department began making annual transfers.
The school received tens of millions of dollars from its sports programs from 2012-19, when athletic director Scott Woodward ended the practice shortly after he took the job.
“It’s something that’s very dangerous, when universities rely on recurring money, especially from an auxiliary like the athletic department,” Woodward told Tiger Rag in 2019. “So no, I think, while I will always support the university in some form or fashion, we can not sustain what we’re currently doing.”
Landry should maybe shut the frick up, and i say that as a moron who voted for him dumbass.

LSU will not be doing some mostly incentive-based deal with the next coach. But the contract won't be a 10-year monster that's 90% guaranteed either.
People whose opinions matter want LSU to have a contract with almost no buyout. It may not turn out that way but be aware this is happening.
Peter Burns posted this yesterday. I thought it had some merit:
quote:
Would love LSU to completely overhaul the current unhealthy system of CFB HC salaries.
4 Year Deal w/ Incentives
$10M Signing Bonus on Day 1
$1M Salary Per Year
$500K Per Win
$5 Million for CFB Playoff spot
$2 Million Per Playoff win/Bye
$3 Million Per Title
$10 M Buyout
You go:
6-6: You make $4M that year
9-3: (No Playoff) $5.5M that year
10-2 (Playoff 1st round exit) $11M
10-2 (Playoff 2nd round exit) $13M
10-2 (Playoff Semi Exit) $15M
10-2 (Runner Up) $17M
10-2 (Natty) $20M
See who's there for the money or the passion
More salt in the game

It is 100% true. It's a state contract.
And his contract with the state pays him $400K a year
Now the amendment on pg 17 say that LSU, a company, and employee have an arrangement that would need a lawyer to explain.

I was spitballing #’s ahha
how about 5/70 contract. with extra 5m for each playoff berth and extra 15m for title.

It’s actually less than 100% true.
LSU coaches are dual employees and have two separate contracts. One with the Louisiana State University Athletic Department and one with Tiger Athletic Foundation.
LSU AD: this contract makes him a public employee by as the university is public, this contract is for $400,000 a year for the life of him contract. This contract does not guarantee his TAF portion, so if donors refused to pay, the school would be required to pay the remaining $400,000 of this years salary plus $400k per year until his contracts end.
TAF: This is a private organization and a nonprofit. They are on the hook for the vast majority of the contract. If they don’t pay courts will rule against them based on the agents work on the contract. This portion is not guaranteed by the university or state.

watching it now. Landry isnt really off base here I dont think its as damaging as yall think
He’s not. In a vacuum the actual substance of what he’s saying is fine. But the guy won’t just shut the hell up and let the process play out. Very self promoting while playing up his accent.

I wish LSU could put out a statement basically saying everything Landry is saying is total bullshite.
Posted on 10/30/25 at 11:58 am to skullhawk
do you genuinely believe if we get the right guy that can work? I’m concerned about that guy coming in with the best intentions but not being truly given full buy in.

I bet they will use LSU model. Also how do you feel about guaranteed money for BK, Jimbo, Riley, FSU and USC coaches? How did that work out?

LSU Athletics is solely and legally responsible for the entire payout.

All the fake lawyers on here, please cut the crap. Say what you want about Jeff, but he saved us from suffering through 2 or 3 years of this $ht show. Woody would not have fired BK this year or next. We all know this, so quit acting like you don't like this firing. BTW I think we should be the first to tie at least half the pay to wins and losses. If we don't do this ,the BKs of the world will continue to have their wine and cheese during practice and their Rhine River cruises during the bye week. Then laugh all the way to the bank when we fire them and cut them a nice 8 figure check.

Oh shut the frick up with this fake news. Jeff Landry is not responsible for anything involving Brian Kelly being fired.

No shite, unless they want to hire North Texas's coach quote: But the contract won't be a 10-year monster that's 90% guaranteed either. Jimmy Sexton and Trace Armstrong laugh in your general direction You will, or you can start speaking Dan Mullen buddy
Y’all are so small minded and know absolutely nothing about college football.
Dan Lanning's first contract with the University of Oregon, signed in December 2021, was a six-year deal valued at $29.1 million.
Marcus Freeman's first contract as Notre Dame's head coach, signed in December 2021, was a six-year deal. While the full financial details are not public, his compensation for his first year (2022) was over $6.5 million, with reports indicating his total compensation in the 2022-2023 academic year was about $6.69 million, including a base salary of over $5.79 million
Mike Elko has a six-year contract with Texas A&M that includes a $7 million annual salary and significant bonuses for postseason success. The deal, which runs through January 2030, has a total value of $42 million
You don’t know football if you think we have to give a ten year contract for over 10 million per year to get a good coach.

It's a crapshoot. The only two guarantees are Kiffin and Lanning imo. Neither is happening.
There's a G5 coach out there who will be the next big thing, but history has shown that your favorite team actually identifying who it is is a matter of luck.
