Kirby Smart asking Jared Mitchell if he’s ever been to Omaha

Jared is not a household name. Kirby doesn’t know if his team made it to Omaha during the seasons he was at LSU.

I get that maybe he’s not a household name, but it’s still a wild question to ask someone with his accolades. It’s not just that his team made it to Omaha during the seasons he was at LSU. They made it to the CWS back to back years, he scored the winning run in the only game they won in 2008, they won it all the 2nd time in 2009, and he was named the most outstanding player on that championship team.

Yeah, I mean I expect Kirby Smart to know who Jared Mitchell is. If you know that someone played baseball for LSU in the last 30 years, chances are they have been to Omaha for a baseball game 
But in typical coach speak fashion he doesn’t adjust his narrative at all after realizing Jared likely has more interesting things to say about the CWS than he does.

Met Jared last year at the Florida game on set of SEC Nation. Dude was super nice and really laid back.
Funny enough my mom was with me and she walked up while I was talking to Jared. She goes full airhead mode and says “who are you? Do you play any sports for LSU or something?”
I just shook my head and apologized, but Jared laughed and was super cool about it.
CSB I know, but found it funny this keeps happening to Jared.

Not to mention, Kirby was on Saban’s staff when Saban heavily recruited Jared for football in 04. Granted that was a long time ago, but he was a big priority for them.

That’s exactly what I would do with every non-LSU athlete I encounter, and probably every celebrity.

Disagree. Kirby lied and messed with Jared. Let’s be real. He slighted Jared, but try to make it genuine.
All coaches have intel on people before they interview with them. Do you not think Kirby knows something about people he is scheduled to talk to in general? Of course he does …He said, he follows College Baseball World Series going back to Florida State years. He told on himself.
Coaches are humans and they will lie to the media as well. I cannot believe the number of people who fell for his BS.
I hope LSU meets GA in the SEC Championship for the payback regarding LSU’s last game against GA.

He likely knew he was sitting down with SEC Network but not who he was sitting down with… I worked in media for a long time. He’s not doing recon on a barbershop quick hit.

Honestly, I think it speaks to the perception of college baseball from LSU fans perspective vs. well.....pretty much everyone else.
