Kiffin Career Record on the Road

Kiffin is a decent home/neutral coach against ranked teams and a historically bad road one.
Career vs AP Top 25 (through LSU’s Sept. 26 win over No. 23 Texas A&M)
Overall: roughly 14-26. He was 13-26 against Top 25 opponents after the 32-24 loss at Ole Miss, then beat a ranked Texas A&M at home the following week. The Oct. 10 loss at Kentucky doesn’t change the ranked numbers; Kentucky was unranked at kickoff.
True road games vs ranked: 2-19, and 1-9 against AP Top 10 teams on the road (per Fox’s The Triple Option, Sept. 23). The Kentucky loss was to an unranked team, so this stays 2-19.

We’ll see if the trend continues, but I’m optimistic that record gets turned around.
Ole Miss game was pretty unique and he made a mistake trusting Baker’s defense against Kentucky. Let’s see if he learns from that.

Do many coaches have a great record playing good teams on the road?

I love people compare CLKs records and talk about how bad they are but never stop to think about where he was. He was at FAU and Ole Miss who are historically bad. He built those programs to be historically better while he was there.
If you wan to go back to his few years at Tennessee and USC well that was so long ago that he isn’t the same coach.

DeBoer is 10-2 all-time on the road against top-25 teams. However, there are only four head coaches with winning percentages higher than .500 in road games against top-25 opponents (with a minimum of five games).
I found this website and thought it was pretty interesting.

Here are the top 5 active coaches with the best road record against ranked teams.
My question is, how the frick has Kiffin played 40 of these games while these other dudes are working around a dozen??
It’s been a tough road for Kiff

He’s been a college head coach for 15 years. Also, how did you come up with the 40 number from a 2-19 record?

I'm no statistician but this seems like a significant indicator that there is something wrong with his process.

Ok, then, if we’re throwing out early runs, what is Lane’s since his return to the SEC.
Ftr he was 0-5 at FAU against ranked teams like #9 Wisconsin, #7 Oklahoma, and #5 Ohio State. At FAU
Kind of skews the numbers a bit imo?
True road games ranked since going to OM:
2020: 0-0
2021: 0-2 #1 Bama, #18 Auburn
2022: 0-0
2023: 1-2 #24 Tulane (W)
, #13 Bama L and #2 UGA L
2024: 0-1 #13 LSU
2025: 1-1 #9 UGA L, #9 OU W
2026: 0-1 #8 OM L
So if you take out the Tulane win he’s 1-7, with four of the losses coming to Bama and UGA.
Not good obviously but a limited sample size with his team being underdogs in all of those games and likely double digit underdogs in at least three of them.
Again not good but seeing as how there are only four active coaches above .500 in this scenario not exactly the indictment the media keeps wanting to portray every time they put this up on the screen.
If it hasn’t improved after a few more games at LSU then I might be more concerned.
I mean when any coach, especially one in Oxford, plays Bama or UGA on the road four times in this era the record isn’t going to look good

Surely you see a difference between what Deboer walked into versus what Kiffin walked into. I mean surely you do lol.

Of course I do. I just answered the question that was asked.

I agree, Kiffin is not good on the road. Adding to that, Baker’s defense doesn’t travel well.
All home games are winnable, but road games are going to be split.
Same to BK, only difference is that BK would get an ugly home win while Kiffin would outscore everybody at home (except top 10 teams, of course).
