Problem is none of them are very good. I think Spears and Gilbert give us the best chance to be successful, but they make plenty of mistakes.
What really concerns me is we have 2 safeties committed and neither of them are big time recruits that were offered by Bama’s and Georgia’s of the world.

Every weekend its the same topics. Really is a head scratcher to believe the secondary was going to make monumental leaps under Raymond. He was fired from Florida and his units have not performed well for quite some time.
This thread is more about safeties, which I think is under Jake Olsen vs Corey Raymond. This doesn't mean Olsen is doing a terrible job either... tho he was more of a LB coach before (I think). But clearly going into last weekend, the pieces are not settled... with Burns bouncing from Star to safety and Sage from corner to safety as immediate needs dictated, and with younger players getting more reps.

Who are you referring too? Pickett and Anding are true CBs and are both going to be very good. Phillips can play CB or S and is an elite prospect. Jhase Thomas is a true safety and is very underrated. And the kid from Lipscomb Academy is going to play STAR and is a thumper. (He was also offered by Tenn, Bama.

Who is that?
I can see Charles Ross as a great Star. He has LB size and safety speed and agility.

We’re talking safety specific.

Ross will put on weight and will likely play WLB. CJ Jimcoily is the kid I’m referring to at STAR

Young guys playing will be beneficial in the long run. Outside of QB, I think any PT is good for freshmen dev.

Has Ausbury played at all this year? I know people thought he was more of a nepotism/legacy portal take and didn’t expect a whole lot from him this year, but he was a 4-star coming out of high school. Hard to imagine he’s so bad he can’t get on the field at all with all the safeties we’ve played and how poorly the play has been from the group as a whole.

For whatever reason Jimcoily is playing free safety in high school.

Sage was late over the top on multiple passes when he was playing deep. Burns cannot play slot receivers man-to-man especially on slot fades. His footwork is terrible.
Still don't know Toviano hasn't been tried at Star or safety and don't know why Kylin Jackson hasn't been given that opportunity either.

After replaying the game last night, in my opinion Perkins should have been playing the STAR position all season! Burns play last night, minus his pass coverage problems, is indicative of that to me. Perkins was never put in the best position for him and the team. Just my honest opinion.

The only thing I’ve seen Sage do all season is be 5 yards away from a huge play for the opposing team then hit the ball carrier after they go into the endzone or finish their 30 yard gain.
So you missed the strip sack he had? You can say he should be replaced without making stuff up.

Imagine Sage or Burns trying to cover Ryan Williams
It might be so awful that they somehow inadvertently cover him well, like an idiot savant situation.

What does Kelly know about playing good defense?
Posted on 9/29/24 at 1:38 pm to ClydeFrazier
That’s where LA needs him. I go to Lipscomb and they are not very good this year 1-4 I believe on the season

It’s every bit as bad as the DJ Welter era, not to beat the dead horse but I do not understand how the kid is still on the field
Burns too
They are both below par SEC players. They are not even serviceable

Playing Burns and Ryan over the young guys at this point is just bad coaching.
Should have put the young guys in and let them take their lumps long ago. Also not sold on Olsen. CB's under Raymond are playing better.

The secondary is playing above its talent level, fool.
