We’ve not heard much about him this offseason which I believe is a good thing.

Kaleb is a pounding back that needs 20-25 carries per game and will get going into the 3rd and 4th quarters. This is not the kind of offense LSU runs. I don't expect much from Kaleb.

If he can come in and spell Caden man that would be so awesome
Harlem Berry will be spelling Caden, IMO.

I too hope he has a breakout season but unfortunately all those muscles don’t help with Vision.
Like several here, I thought he would transfer. He looked better his FR season than his SO one. He looked a bit slower with no increase in power....maybe less. I agree with you and others that his vision/decision of where to run is poor to be kind. It might have something to do with his lack of being able to change direction. Talk about a "straight ahead runner". I can't remember one single time he actually made "a cut". Either he is obsessed with trying to run over people or he simply isn't agile enough to make cuts. Regardless the outcome is the same. If he isn't able to get up some speed, he is a BELOW AVERAGE back in FBS...at least as a starting back or first off the bench.

I hope these boys pick up the playbook fast because it feels like on paper we have a stacked but small RB room.

They have to stop running inside zone with Kaleb. He is not that type of running back. He needs iso, stretches, tosses, ets. Something to let him build his speed and have a line to hit. He can not read the blocking and cutbacks good enough to utilize him in zone running scheme.

No RB needs 20-25 carries a game
Either you're good or you're not. If you need 20-25 carries to break 1 carry for a big gain and get to 4-5 YPC you're just not good. Often times people get confused looking at YPC on RBs.
You could have 2 guys have almost identical looking stats but had very different games.
RB A - 15 car 75 yards, 5 ypc
RB B - 15 car 75 yards, 5 ypc
Assume no TD for either.
Identical looking game, but what if I told you RB A's longest run was 14 yards, and only had 3 rushes under 4 yards, 0 for for gain/loss. This means 12 of their 15 carries went for 4+ yards. RB B's longest run was 42 yards, but had 7 carries under 4 yards, 3 of those 7 for 0 yards or loss. This means RB B had just 8 carries go for 4+ yards.
Now who clearly had the better game? RB B had the 1 nice long run, but was pretty ineffective half the time or so. RB A by comparison was much more effective.
Bottom line is Kaleb fills a big back role, short yardage guy and pound a team into submission in 4th quarter type of punisher back. With Durham around (As in, healthy) he's never getting 25 carries in a game because Durham is a guy that can easily break one 40-60-80 yards and Jackson really isnt that at all. Durham will get his due touches because of the big play ability.

if we couldn’t run the ball behind that O line last year, why will it be better this year behind a new Line?
Mostly Alex Atkins, but also different players (w/ experience). Just bc they’re not Will Campbell doesn’t mean our run blocking won’t improve
quote:
“We are excited about Alex and his addition to our staff,” Kelly said. “He brings a great deal of experience as a coordinator, but more importantly his depth and background in the run game as an offensive line coach, he adds another perspective in that room with (offensive line coach) Brad (Davis).
Brad has done a great job. This is really having somebody who will coach the tight ends and have a specific focus towards our run game and how it matches with what I’m looking for in our overall offensive structure. ”Having somebody that is dedicated to that, having somebody that has his eye on it every day, I felt like where we are today, that was a great need. To get someone with his type of experience in building runs games, the need and the timing, make it a great fit.”

I hope Kaleb wins the Heisman, but i see no basis for expecting a big breakout.
I recall that we were seeing these very same posts in July, 2024.

Kaleb Jackson breakout season
I can't remember if it was OTB or AFR, but he was somewhere and admitted that last season he bought into his own hype and got lazy. He said he is focused this year. This was in relation to a conversation about why he stayed at LSU after a subpar season and he took full responsibility for it.
If he returns to his previous season's form, he'll be hard to handle.

It would help if he lost 10-15 pounds

Durham is going to be the guy and will have a monster year.

Kaleb's play last season was one of the most perplexing considering all of the hype coming into the year. Would love to see him and Durham become a legit 1-2 punch.
Posted on 7/10/25 at 11:06 am to BayouBengals21
Man if Jackson could play up to his potential this year assuming the Oline actually tries to run block this year as well, then LSU could have a 3 headed monster at RB with Durham, Jackson and Berry which I know will get plenty of playing time because he’s too explosive to sit on the bench.
Posted on 7/10/25 at 11:07 am to BayouBengals21
Durham is the guy now. End of story.
Would be great if Kaleb can balance it out and create a power / speed duo but he is absolutely not grabbing the rb1 spot back.

think we can scheme him into opportunities for success
I agree while at the same time I don’t know the best situations for him.
Twenty years ago the game was just so different, Spencer Ware was a body blow battering ram for three quarters then a faster, softer back (Michael Ford) would feast late and break one off. That style of play is antiquated
Posted on 7/10/25 at 12:28 pm to BayouBengals21
Will be hard to breakout with the amount of touches he’ll probably get. He’ll have to make the most of them because it’s going to be hard to not have Durham or Berry out there with what they both can do in the run game and as receivers out the backfield and both are a threat to house it on any touch. If the OLine is good LSU can win the national championship.

Kaleb Jackson is 100% a physical freak and could be a big contributor for us.
Just needs to develop more patience and vision in the zone scheme we run. He is an old school I formation type of RB and I wish our offense would throw in a package or 2 for him.
It’s Durhams backfield regardless, but we are going to need Kaleb Jackson to contribute and could have a big impact. Could be a very good combo.
