Etienne didn't like being put on the back burner by LSU so he looked elsewhere.
But he was okay with being put on the backburner by Clemson, who waited until Cordarrian Richardson decommitted to offer?

Coach (Ed) Orgeron and his staff came in here and worked extremely hard to get Travis," Phelps said. "The day Orgeron was named interim head coach (Sept. 25, 2016), he called me and said I’m coming after your boy.
Seems like a good time to make a scholarship offer, no?
If Travis and his family loved O so much why didn't he come here? Did he hold that large of a grudge against Miles?

O seemed all in on Akers, and I never like Akers more than Etienne.
Etienne's film always impressed me more and we should have been on him at all costs. Etienne was more explosive and he was actually breaking tackles (some people didn't seem to give him credit for)
Chasing Akers was always silly to me, but that's just me.

When LSU finally turned their attention to Travis it was too late. He had already turned the page on LSU.
I know a lot of young like to blame Miles and that’s fine, Miles liked Akers more, people can disagree. But if TE held it against LSU after Miles was fired that really doesn’t speak well about him. O and staff offered him pretty soon after Miles was fired, Clemson didn’t offer until January, several months after LSU, it was 3 weeks before signing day and only after they lost on a another recruit. So if he felt disrespected because LSU didn’t “show him the love” Sooner, sounds like he’s a thin skinned baby

LSU was his #1 and he was an instate prospect. He obviously felt slighted and chose to go to another school. My guess is he then picked the best offer he had.

FWIW though, I am so pleased we got Emery.
That makes me feel better moving forward.

I have no doubt if Miles were still the coach Akers is a tiger. Joe Alleva fricked this up royally.
See how easy that is?
Opinions are like, well, you know
But hey, we all know Les Miles was terrible when it came to getting RB talent to BR.
Let’s blame him!

quote:seems to have some validity. He does have a family connection to Clemson also.
The rumor at the time was that Etienne felt like he was spurned by his home state school
quote:While this is true in my opinion, don't forget the policy set forth by Alleva and Orgeron during that interim period: Continue on with the current recruiting strategy and finish it out as it. In fact, Orgeron was not taking HC visits just in case a someone else was named and we didn't want the new HC having none to come in a settle down the blue chippers.
O could have rectified this by offering as soon as he was named interim, but he chose not to do so.
The status quo was the order of the day in the interim period.
So... did Orgeron offer right after he was named permanent is the question? If he did, THAT is the tale of the tape regarding Orgeron and Etienne and on the previous staff, IF that's the chronology, regarding the too little too late (i.e. being spurned).

Ree doesn't even care about this topic. He's trying to distract people from the fact that Nick Saban just went 14-1 and is making staff changes while Ed O and company are making excuses as to why they should keep their buddies.
Ha Ha Ha, you are a mental midget. Don't project your insecurities onto me man. I am not Bamasessed like some on this board.
I didn't even realize Bama was 14-1 and was not aware of staff changes they have made. Hopefully they wind up with worse coaches than the ones they let go.

Miles went after the higher rated prospect that he wanted. Had Orgeron come in and offered Etienne in October he's probably in Baton Rouge right now. Orgeron chose to continue to pursue the higher rated prospect instead.
Your agenda is showing.

He waited a month.

Apparently Orgeron didn't like him either. Orgeron was named interim coach in September. LSU didn't offer Etienne until December 27.
Recruiting is a multi-year process. When Orgeron was named interim coach he largely had to work with what was already inherited.

He was named HC the week after Thanksgiving, right? He offered Etienne on December 27th, so a month after he was named HC.

I don't really place blame on either coach here.
People get pissy when presented with the fact that Etienne was slow played by two different LSU head coaches.

The previous head coach didn't want Etienne. Who's to say the new head coach would have. An interim coach should not make promises to players he cannot keep.

Clemson offered the kid 3 weeks before signing day.

Then why did he wait a full month after becoming the permanent coach to offer?

Lots and lots of water under the bridge by that time, the Rant thinks this can be reversed in weeks.
