You can’t even spell the guy’s name correctly
Posted on 10/7/21 at 2:36 pm to CatfishJohn
don’t care to spell his name correctly. He’s not a coach here Mr Grammar police. Instead of harping on a misspelled name, can you answer my post?

That's ridiculous. What did Korby Smart do before getting the keys to Georgia? He's arguably coaching the beat team in the country.

No way Woodward poaches a coach from Baylor.

So we’re comparing Kirby with Dave now?
Posted on 10/7/21 at 2:38 pm to TheTexasTiger7
Well Aranda was here before 2019 and kept the ship from sinking for 3 years with his defense so yea he was the main stabilizer.
Posted on 10/7/21 at 2:42 pm to SDVTiger
He isn’t a good recruiter and would require a great OC and staff of great recruiters. With those 2 areas covered he would be good, not great.

I like Aranda. I always felt secure/comfortable that he would take of care of business on his side of the ball, and he did 90% of the time.

Who says we could get Aranda back?
I called him and he said he's cool with it.

While I agree with your point, you do realize AFTER Arranda left, we lost 14 players to the NFL, not including the likes of Jamar who opted out. We also lost Joe Brady, and another big name in there is Burrow. While I’m not saying Arranda leaving didn’t have a major impact, you pointing out that Arranda leaving after 2019 is why LSU has gone to shite, there are numerous other variables that are in play other than Arranda.
While Aranda isn’t my first choice, this isn’t a smart thing to say. Aranda bought Miles more time at LSU and allowed O to get to his second contract. Aranda had us in every game since he got here because Les and O couldn’t do shite without him or any other elite DC. Both of these coaches are nothing with an elite DC and don’t make it their last contacts without Aranda. He was the consistency and backbone to our program since he got here. Saying all that, let’s see how he does at Baylor this year before we crown him.

No but not many thought it was not a good idea to hire Kirby at Georgia. I'd hire Aranda over many of those other clowns that are allegedly on the list. Orgeron is the coach till he isn't the coach.

The 2019 defense was outstanding once it was healthy. No other team held top level opponents down the way we did at the end of the year.
Vs #4 UGA- averaged 31ppg we held them to 10
Vs #4 Oklahoma- avg 42ppg we held them to 28 and coasted the 2nd half
Vs #3 Clemson- avg 44ppg we held them to 25
Vs ATM- avg 30ppg we held them to 7
4 of those were championship or playoff games. No other defense held multiple top 5 opponents to scores that low all year long much less in succession.

but it’s too early to hand him the keys to the LSU football program. What if Baylor loses to WV this Saturday? Would you still want Arranda then? Curious.
The talent level in LA is better and not having to compete with aTm and Texas for recruits. Also Lot easier to recruit kids to LSU, whose been breeding NFL players for decades, then baylor. If miles and O, who are both mildly retarded, can win championships here then there’s no reason someone who actually knows what they’re doing can’t have long term success.

Aranda made Coach O and everyone sees this now

What has Aranda done that warrants a top ten program gig?
Ran a top ten program.
See his tenure here while he was under Orgeron's employ and what transpired AFTER he left.

Did you think there were better in '18?
They weren't elite, but that defense was good. They were 33rd in the country. Out of 130

Why not go after Brady?
Dude doesn't want to recruit. He wants to stay in the NFL.
I'm all for Aranda. I felt like he should have gotten the nod over O back when Les got fired.

I think Arranda will be great one day, but it’s too early to hand him the keys to the LSU football program
Why?
quote:
Seriously, what has Arranda done to give him the head coaching job here?
1) proven to be one of the best defensive minds in college football and just very intelligent and cerebral in general
2) displayed a tremendous work ethic, attention to detail, and organizational skills
3) has established relationships in Louisiana, Texas, and the Midwest
4) would not embarrass the university
5) is very familiar with LSU and knows what it takes to win big here. Coached under 2 NC HCs and is smart enough to have taken the things that Les and Ed did well along with what they didn’t
6) is very respected in coaching circles and with the money LSU has for assistants, would always be able to make very good to great hires.
7) appears to be very easy to work with and for and is the kind of coach good, younger, ambitious assistants would want to come and learn from.
8) apparently je and his family are fond of Baton Rouge as he could have left a couple of times, but I think he stayed to learn more about what it takes to build and maintain a championship program
9):is an expert on one side of the ball and not a larger than life cartoon character, 2 traits that most on this board seem to want as prerequisites
10) is attainable at a decent price
His lack of HC experience may give people, the feeling that he’s not “safe.” I disagree. With his strengths, I can’t see any way he’s not at least good. I think he has a high floor and an incredibly high ceiling. Not saying he’d have anywhere near the success of Saban, but he has very similar traits and is the closest thing I see to a young Saban in CFB.
It wouldn’t be the sexiest hire, and it doesn’t seem like a Woodward hire, but I don’t know that there is an available Woodward type hire out there this year. Sometimes you have to take a chance, and I think Aranda is someone worth taking one on.

True. There were a lot of players either out or playing hurt.
His defense at the end of the season and during the playoffs was about as good as it gets.
As for Aranda as a HC he may not be a dynamic personality, but he is a brilliant, detail oriented guy that is a high character person.
I can see him as a steady force that would always push the program forward. Kind of a refreshing change of pace. I do think he has a bit of an edge to him that he doesn't always let slip out. I've seen him pretty fired up on the sideline at times.
