Unqualified assistants
So, Dunn who has the lowest team ERA in the SEC since his hire is now unqualified.

You people are just dumb.

Hess cant get ahead in the count, he cant throw his breaking ball for a strike anywhere in the zone except for the fricking dead middle of the plate.

That is my major gripe about PM. ALWAYS WANTING EX PLAYERS AS COACHES.
Alan Dunn has never played for Mainieri.

The scouting of Hilliard has caught up to him now.
No it hasnt, there is no magic scouting pill.

Hilliard has lost command...period.

Everyone wants to blame people, but if the kid CAN do it and DOESNT do it, you know whos fault it is...the player.

It isnt coaching, the uniforms, the possum, or any of that shite. It is the lack of execution by the player.

Yep, it's been a trainwreck. They were throwing QUALITY strikes, painting them edges. Then the last few weeks -with the exception Hilliard at Old Miss-they're walking batters and then throwing it over the white and gettin shelled.

You're dangerously close to losing your posting privileges. Do not personally attack others, and do not use profanity! Do we understand each other?

The frick? Regardless of what is walkers best pitch is, he was going to be the ace of this staff and one of the best pitchers in the country, it is absolutely valid. Storz and labas were also supposed to be big pieces to this staff and they have been hurt most of the year.

Now if you want to criticize PM/dunn for not having a deep enough pen i think thats valid, its an issue for most teams though sans florida

If the injuries to Walker, Labas and Storz don't happen then our pen is deep as frick though

Tons of big injuries. Walker hurt the worst. Lack of leadership. Unqualified assistants. It's just not our year.

yea, walker and stortz has really hurt. labas was much delayed in starting also. that alone will screw up anyone's rotation. I am much beginning to believe those that question Hess as a starter; he's had several bad outings in a row and has to throw a ton of pitches to get outs. he's simply not dependable.

I don't know about the "unqualified" assistants. it seems we could use a skilled hitting coach and I am and always have been skeptical of Dunn. I know we have had good ERA's under him in general so I guess he's ok. all I know is that routinely, no one of the staff can throw a fricking strike and when they do they leave it over the plate and the hitter gives it a ride.

this team has been a big disappointment for me, the fans, the coaches and the players. you can win the SEC with average hitting but you have to have great SP's to do that. Auburns stats in the SEC are actually worse than ours. that shows you how crappy our pitchers were last night and now they get to pitch their ace tonight.

oh well, not every year can be a banner season.

And our catcher is beyond weak defensively. How many balls have gotten away this year? Last night wasn't an exception, this has been going all pretty much all year. None of our catchers are even average defensively.

Our OF has been awesome once again defensively; Bain pretty solid at 1st; adventure sometimes at 2nd with Broussard out; 3rd has been scary at times and SS isn't a strength. Tough to knock Hughes but he isn't a top end defensive SS in the SEC. He knows baseball and plays smart but he has booted several balls in key moments and he barely hits his weight. Again, tough for a true freshman to step in at SS at LSU but he is playing to his talent level. All this factored in with pitching injuries and key guys like Gilbert grossly under-performing

We still have some top notch talent but overall we are down from the last several years. I think signing all these Perfect Game All Stars and expecting them to shine magically is back firing.
Pitching coach is well respected. Maneri knows baseball but our hitting assistants aren't exactly fending off multiple job offers. Who has really improved at the plate this year? Pitching has dealt with major injuries and Dunn has been pretty damn good during his tenure + look at Dunn's history. He can coach.

Our hitters don't appear to have gotten much better. Our approach is beyond bad at the plate. Even upper classman are terrible at situational hitting this year. Last year we were lights out but how much of that was credited to Coach Arms' time here?
