Ohio State’s defense is probably better than ours. Miami defense is arguably as good as well. I’d say we are 2A 2B with Miami objectively.

Wow, I’m sure he’s the only one that bought into those 3 teams this year, including Vegas.

Anytime you have a defense that can get consistent stops you are going to be a dangerous team if you can get the offense to click. However, our defense has been playing far too many plays lately. We need to start limiting the amount of defensive plays by sustaining drives and eating clock to prevent the defense from wearing down later in the season. Until then we are playing with fire and will eventually get burned (again).

100%

We know we arent going to run consistently but the short passing game needs to take that role. AA and KP over the middle, ZT on the outside screen, etc.
Quit running 4 verts when we all know damn well we cant block long enough for them to get open and run the underneath stuff and sustain drives.
Sometimes I think Sloan is actually a 12 year old playing Madden

mean, realistically, this team is "THIS CLOSE" on offense from being the best team in college football.

I think we're closer to being a competent offense which would make us one of the best 12 teams in the nation. To be the best in the nation, we'd have to consistently run the ball considerably better (like we did against USC) and actually put more TDs up in the red zone (which we just haven't done against anyone basically). And we would also need Nuss to stop throwing terrible interceptions. I don't see any sign that we're closer on that part, but here's to hoping.

But yes, our D is one of the best we have had in years and may keep us in every game.

The issue with the offense is largely that we only throw the ball short. We haven't connected on many down field shots due to the Nuss injury and when he finally is healthy enough to throw it Hilton drops it. I've said it once I've said it a thousand times. It's like you people don't even watch the games.

We are the absolute worst team at 4-verts. It drives me crazy when we run it on 3rd down. It never works and Nuss gets drilled. If you are going to run it then you run it on 1st down to take a shot. We need to stop running it on 3rd down when our best asset is the intermediate passing game.

You might wanna go watch some film break down. We run 4 verts far too often. Super low success rate to begin with plus we cant block it long enough. I'd straight up tear the damn play out of the playbook.
Half the short throws are just run game extensions b/c they dont have faith in running the ball. Some of that was alleviated last game with success. What we were missing is AA over the middle. KP had a great catch and run and then Sloan was like hey lets never run that concept again.

Almost as bad as SC giving their RB 2 carries after his long TD run. These guys get paid lots of money to be idiots.

I haven't went back and watched the entire game over again but I'm not sure we ran 4 verts even once against SC. I know we ran some slot verticals with stops by the outside guys at times. We ran a ton of crossers. One of which Nuss threw a pick on. We hit Green in the flats a bunch and also on a slant and a go. We hit Parker on the quick slant against man coverage. You stated we need to throw it short more but all we do is throw it short. We need to take more shots now that Nuss can do it and that will open up the run game.

No team that has to blitz as much as we do is the best LSU defense this century. The early-mid 2000's probably had two or three better defenses.

yup. this D is not better than 2003 or 2011. saban and chavis blitzed but not like this.

we had # 3 ranked D under pellini in 05, 06 and 07. 2010 was good also under chief.

2011
PPG 10.5
YPG 262

2003
PPG 11
YPG 252

No team in the country is going to easily beat us. But the offense doesn’t have what it takes to win the big ones.
