He is very open about why he doesn't like LSU this year. He doesn't trust the run game. OL specifically. If LSU can run the ball well, he'll change his mind.
Joel Klatt had Texas beating UGA in the SEC champ game and LSU playing in the first round @ND.
ETA: Pate has been very high on Austin Thomas and how well LSU's GM staff has been doing.

Joel Klatt has LSU losing to Clemson, Bama, missing SEC championship but still sliding in. Then playing Notre Dame and losing to them with a "no chance to win" playing ND at home. I laughed. ND better worry about even making it this year because luck of the irish isn't going to follow them every year.
