I don’t know who evaluated him coming out of HS but that guy could have played QB. He threw some pretty good ropes while rolling. More impressive is he only had a few weeks to prepare.

Maybe by casual fans like yourself but not for us who actually care about LSU and the kids who put on the uniform

Jontre is an absolute legend. Was thinking about making a thread like this. He’s always poured his heart out for the Tigers. I’ll never forget being at the LSU UGA game at Tiger Stadium a few years ago and every kickoff he would run through the end zone and hype up the crowd at the end of each one. Always gave it his all and could tell he was the ultimate hype man for this team. Jontre, if you’re reading this…you reached Legend status with the LSU faithful.

Stop. No he won’t. Had he won the game maybe. Instead we got beat by 3 TDs and he threw 2 interceptions. This game, and the fact that we started a WR at QB will be forgotten quickly, as it should be.

I can assure you I’ve spent more in the support of LSU football in Past 25 years than your life is worth.

GFY.

Wrong. Jontre won’t be forgotten And it’ll always be said in jest he was a better QB than Harris, Jennings, Hatch etc. now. He will be thrown in the conversation for best LSU QBs even joking around and for that reason alone he won’t be forgotten. Look at all the praise the kid is getting and deservedly so.

It's pretty crazy to think about all the random stuff that had to happen for this moment to unfold, but this one start is going to keep him in the minds and hearts of LSU fans in perpetuity.

I think you are overstating it (as emotional people typically do).

If he had led the team to a victory, I believe he would have been honored for probably 20-30 years. That's legend status.

Now, he will be remembered fondly. This will be a self deprecating, humorous event to look back on.

Kirklin did better than I thought he would. He was a warrior. And, he got better as the game went on. I wanted to see more. He deserves tons of credit. But, let's be honest. We never got to a point where we were in that game, unfortunately. As much fun as it would have been to have been sitting in a game as we entered the 4th with a shot, that didn't happen.

Hmm, I think that your underestimating the appreciation most fans have for what Jontre did, especially given other players not playing for various reasons.

It's stuff like this that makes me love college sports. We'd all rather be winning championships but to really see that human aspect of the game, to witness a guy in a true underdog role live a very unlikely dream of playing QB for LSU, to watch his teammates beam with pride at his effort, etc. you don't really get that anywhere else.

My favorite sentimental moment in college sports is when it's late in basketball season and they put in the guy that's been practicing with the team all year and hasn't logged one minute of playing time. They feed him the ball in the corner and he jacks up a 3 and makes it; watching the sideline erupt with joy and then mob him with hugs at the next timeout is just so cool to watch. This was as close to the football equivalent to that moment i think i'll ever see.

Now lets go recruit some dogs and go kick some arse next year.

yep... its called Respect and love for your brother... all of us who played sports recognizes it... its special...

Lol no he won’t. I’m as proud of him as anyone, but this game will be forgotten soon enough. Rightfully so.

This guy gets it.

In 2 weeks no one is gonna give a frick about this meaningless performance in a meaningless game. You people need to quit acting like he stepped up and lead this team to victory in an sec game that had championship implications. He played in the fricking Texas bowl and lost to a shitty b12 team. Did he step up, absolutely, but let’s not act like it was an all time great performance in a big time game.

Unfortunately for Kirklin this game was a mockery made possible by the transfer portal and opt outs (and no I'm not faulting any single player for opting out).

I think most fans will want to forget this game quicker than most that have been played in the last 2 decades.

That will dampen the focus on Kirklin's extremely gutsy performance that did get better as he played into the QB role more throughout the game. Sure the 2 int's were probably throws he should never have thought about, but shite what did we expect. I respect the kid immensely for what he did for this team over the last month when put into a extremely tough situation. If I owned a business in south LA I'd give him a shot to work for me for sure.

Son, he was more legendary last night than you will be in your entire miserable life. Give the young man some credit for playing his off at a position he hasn't played since high school. Did someone shite in your vodka New Years Eve? Damn Bro.

Obviously Jontre was thrown into the fire with little preparation and made some mistakes, but honestly Jontre's moves impressed me. I'm surprised he didn't see the field more during his LSU career. I also think the coaches should have allowed him to be more aggressive in the first half. He looked like a playmaker to me. And he is a very shifty runner. And he has heart that led Lutcher to two championships. Wish that dude had another year to play!!!

Also, if I had a company in Louisiana, I'd hire him as a sales representative. Articulate and charming as heck!!!

If anyone is old enough to remember the 1986 BB team "chicken pox" games - that's how I think this would be remembered.

Kirklin performance last night will be noticed by the NFL and Kirklin will be in the NFL whereas the quitters actions will also be noticed by the NFL.
