I think it's just the opposite. Ching chong will stroke out now because he'll have to root for LSU under Wade because his BF will be on the staff.

You act like recruiting isn’t needed. Just about all the big boys are offering the same players around the same amount of money. If anything with NIL you need proven recruiters more so than before.

This is just absolutely untrue. Nobody is hiring assistants who are completely geared toward recruiting anymore. You act like it’s not possible to hire someone who knows something about offensive or defensive basketball and can also recruit, especially when you only have four positions to give out to those people.

fricking hell, some of you will shill so hard for anyone who has been a part of this program in the past just because of their previous association. Wade is an obvious exception. Jones should not be.

If he can drum up an extra few mil in NIL from donor connections, it’s well worth it IMO.

You don’t hand out bench positions for that. He could be hired into the athletic department in some bullshite position to fundraise.

I wasn’t being fully descriptive in my post.

I don’t think it would be 100% fundraising. This would most likely be killing multiple birds with one stone. LA/TX in roads with recruits (yes, relationships still matter if NIL money is close), appease the Dale/Temple contingent that is still around, the NIL fundraising part, and he can run parts of practice. It’s not like he’s useless, he just isn’t a good head coach. That’s why we have Coach Wade.

You hand out bench coaches for a guy that knows the handlers who now get to call themselves “agents” and can get the handlers to steer them your way.

Is Johnny that guy anymore? I don’t know

I get that, but basketball coaches don’t have the staff size and analysts that the football programs are allowed. He needs as much help as he can get from the staff we can hire. That’s why I’m not really in favor of a guy who’s kind of an empty seat when it comes to game planning.

Again, it’s possible to hire a guy who’s capable as a recruiter in the NIL era and can still deliver those other things. The only thing he would be missing is the political ties, and that’s just not a good reason to hire any assistant coach anymore.

I don’t hate this at all. Doesn’t seem like a bad idea to have a native son who was part of the highest points this program has ever seen be a recruiter and positive voice for the program. I would imagine that Johnny could recruit transfer portal targets well.

I can tell you haven’t been to a game this season. The size of McMahons staff is ridiculous.

Now it’s comprised of a lot of old players etc because that’s who he could get to get on board but it is what it is

I have read your posts and understand your point. I don’t agree and am fine if he’s a hire and it has nothing to do with my loyalty to Coach Jones or former LSU players or coaches.

I can see the potential value, even if CJJ isn’t a basketball coaching wizard, and I trust Wade to put his staff together how he sees fit.

While I’m sure he could veto it, I have to wonder if this would be his first choice or one that he has been asked to accept for political reasons.

Agree to disagree. It isn’t the end of the world. It’s just kind of a regressive move.

If this is accurate, I smell Collis trying to leverage this hire. Johnny played for a great HS coach Dale Skinner, and was coached and recruited by Rick Huckabay at LSU (who was an assistant to Skinner), so he’s from a decent tree, but I don’t like it. For one, Johnny is 64 and on the downhill side of enthusiasm and energy.

Wade and Jones seemed to form a good relationship. In know Wade scheduled Texas Southern last year.

I highly doubt that was a term dictated on Wade. Is it convenient in that it keeps some of this crowd happy, sure.
