Joe Burrow: serial offender

I thought this quote from a professor of psychology was pertinent. Burrow has been slaying opponents lately.
Super Joe
quote:
"Because I'm a sociologist that studies crime, after the game I told his parents that Joe had the kind of qualities that you find in cops and first responders -- and also serial offenders," Vander Ven said.

Someone who never uses the cardboard tab on top of the box to close it all up nice and tidy.

Here is that part of the article for more context.
quote:
"Because I'm a sociologist that studies crime, after the game I told his parents that Joe had the kind of qualities that you find in cops and first responders -- and also serial offenders," Vander Ven said. "The point I was making was he had the kind of qualities those people have, where his pulse probably doesn't change no matter the situation he finds himself in. He could be mowing the lawn or pulling people from a fire and his pulse would probably stay about the same."

Joe is so cool, he has ice in his veins.
He is so cool, he pisses slushie.

Underrated reply.

This guy has obviously never mowed the lawn in So La.
But I get the sentiment.

Pretty silly comparison.

It's actually spot on. First responders, trauma/ER doctors, and serial criminals all become desensitized to the situations. Same goes for top notch athletes. Most just call it sports amnesia, "icewater in their veins", "cool as a cucumber", etc.

Nah, if you read the entire quote, you’ll see that he’s referring to the ability to remain calm, regardless of the circumstances.

I’m getting frostbite on my fingers right now just from reading this thread on my iPhone.

It’s deeper than that. There is an innate detachment of emotion in people that last in those careers. Many people try to do those jobs and wash out pretty quickly because they don’t have the mental make up required. Obviously, serial offenders become so because they are emotionally detached and lack empathy during the act or remorse after.
It takes that same innate emotional detachment to perform under pressure. Yes, that ability can be cultivated, but only among those that are wired for it. Those that aren’t, fold under pressure and won’t continue to put themselves in those situations. It’s rare, but there are a very few that not only can perform under pressure as well as, or nearly as well as they do under no pressure, but actually are their very best when under the most pressure. Burrow may be one of those few.

He's got ice in his veins. His heart rate doesn't change if he's standing there or being blitzed
