I would say frick Sherman, but didn't he do something right after the war to help assure that LSU was up and running again? I'll reserve my frick you until confirmed, maybe.

Yea might get a few downvotes on this board. They miss slavery.
Miss slavery? Who, today, was alive to remember having a slave? I'll wait.......... Nothing?
Here's a fun fact: Only 10 percent of the southern population owned slaves, and there were many who owned slaves in the Union states. And yet, an entire city, filled with people who had nothing to do with slavery, was destroyed to make some kind of point.
And it was this kind of behavior from Union leaders that gave birth to the KKK and all of the hatred and violence that came from it. There wasn't a hatred of black people by the general southern populous. But the destruction of the South caused a divide that was passed on for generations, as black people became, collectively, the symbol of southern poverty. That's not the fault of black people, but that's just the way it was.
That doesn't make the racism of the past right. It's merely an explanation of how we got there. That is why I revile people like William Sherman, and so should you.

less than 10% - would venture to say way less (pretty sure it was closer to 2%)
Freed blacks were 4 to 8 times more likely to own slaves than whites as well.
Definitely not as clear cut as "history" tries to make it.

It wasn't to make a point. It was to end the war as quickly as possible. By that time the war was over. There was suffering everywhere. The only humane thing to do was to end it ASAP. So that's what he did.

Very true. And yeah, revisionist history is a heck of a thing.

Les Miles was from Ohio and won one and lost one (NC), 2 SEC
Paul Dietzel was from Ohio and won one NC, 2 SEC
Saban was from West Virginia, but went to college in Ohio, won NC at LSU, 2 SEC
Bill Arnsparger was from Kentucky, but went to college in Ohio, won the SEC at LSU.

Normally people from that time period look like frilly, effeminate weirdos, but Sherman would be a straight badass if he was talking down the street today. Looks like he belongs in a Ranger battalion right now

No, dude. You have one thing right: The war WAS over. But that was not the "humane" thing to do. He burned people's homes. What did that have to do with war? These weren't enemies of the state. These were Americans, many of whom had been thrust into a war they wanted no part of, on both sides, and people who weren't even in the fight had their lives destroyed.
I'm not a fan of Abraham Lincoln, as he, himself, was FOR slavery up until the point that it became politically expedient for him to use slavery as a crutch for his war. But even HE did not condone what Sherman did. He did not give that order.

I get the joke, but let's please not paint that Tyrant, Sherman, as some kind of heroic figure. Regardless of how anyone "feels" about the so-called "civil" war, there was no reason for him to burn an entire city. There's really nothing funny about that.
It's pretty funny

Hopefully no one burns down your house because they don't like those few "bad eggs" that they heard lived in your town.
I hope you never have to figure out how unfunny it is.

What's funny is that it's been American foreign policy to do the exact same thing to every country after WWII.

Sherman did a number of things for LSU after the war...remember the original Pentagon Barracks, which was the Army installation in Baton Rouge, who do you think transferred it to LSU???
He maintained an interest in the university until he died, and several items were donated from his personal library...
as far as the people griping about what he did....ever heard of the Combined Bombing Campaign?

In 1864, when General William Sherman burned the entire city to the ground. History repeats itself this weekend for the Georgia Bulldogs.
