Put all the numbers in a jar and everybody picks and you wear what you get. It’s a number, for Pete’s sake…

And right there is an example of why players wouldn’t play for BK. He’s not a man of his word.

Those who are saying JD wasn’t that great while here and didn’t win a championship need to stop. It sounds petty.

The guy had one of the best seasons of any QB in the history of the sport and the only reason we didn’t win a championship is our defense was absolutely terrible. That’s not on him.

His performance against Florida is the single greatest athletic feat I’ve ever witnessed in person. He was incredible that day. Throughout his career he made plays I’ve never seen from anyone on a football field before or since.

All that said…this dude is an idiot.

I always thought he was well-spoken, humble and intelligent. One of my favorite players ever. It’s sad to know he is actually incredibly stupid. I can still hardly believe this is actually a true story.

Jayden has said multiple times that without LSU’s virtual reality practice system, he would have never won the Heismann. That, along with hard work and amazing teammates, is the main reason he had such a jump in production in year two here.

To now act like it was all his doing and LSU should forever be in debt to him is the height of arrogance and not something I saw coming.

It truly is a shame. I’m disheartened by this, honestly. I’m losing hope in the direction of humanity and sportsmanship.

‘That Kid Jayden’

We should have known all along. He was and is a damn child, who follows whatever mama says.

I hope the backlash he receives from this doesn’t cause him to double down and that he uses it to grow up and finally become a man.

Does anyone know if JD5 reached out personally or was the first contact from an attorney?

At LSU, retiring a jersey does not mean the number is permanently taken out of circulation. The LSU Athletics policy separates the concept of a "retired jersey" (which honors the individual player) from a "retired number" (which locks the number from ever being worn again).

The core of LSU’s unique jersey tradition stems from a major policy shift enacted on January 1, 2007:Retirement Date Rule Impact
Who it Applies To

Retired BEFORE Jan. 1, 2007

The number is permanently locked. No future LSU student-athlete can ever wear it.Pete Maravich (#23), Bob Pettit (#50), Shaquille O'Neal (#33) in basketball; Billy Cannon (#20) in football; Skip Bertman (#15) in baseball.

Retired AFTER Jan. 1, 2007

The player is honored, but the number stays in circulation. Future athletes can wear it at the head coach's discretion.Tommy Casanova (#37), Jerry Stovall (#21), Charles Alexander (#4), and Bert Jones (#7) in football. Seimone Augustus (#33) and Sylvia Fowles (#34) in women's basketball.

Someone needs to show him this so he can find a way to change his position gracefully

I think ultimately the number will end up being retired in the future

Jayden has to wait until he's been office campus for 5 years. Then he has to be nominated. Then he has to be unanimously voted on to have his jersey retired. EVEN THEN, the #5 will never be prohibited from being used by another player by LSU's own bylaws.

If Steve Ensminger doesn’t mind his #5 being worn, Jayden shouldn’t either.

Latterance Welch wore #5 on defense in 2023, Daniels wore it on offense. Pickett will wear it on defense, it’s Welch’s number, not Daniels’.

Jayden demanding money for simply using his name for recruiting purposes is somehow much worse than feeling slighted over a jersey retirement. This guy is ridiculous

Remove his name from roster and heisman? He won heisman but don’t show number or team.

It’s dumb to retire a number in a place like LSU that has had so many great players. We have many players over the years that were better than the selected Heisman and that should not be the criteria for retiring a jersey. Neither should winning a national championship be a reason for retirement. Too many great great players at LSU who have played before us have been uniquely great and not been retired. Let Cannon be the only one or put his number back in circulation. It’s a stupid policy that has stupid results.

I just unclicked Washington Commanders on my favorites list on the ESPN mobile app. I was only following them because of JD5.
His actions are now going to hurt his pro team following!
