This looks like a joke headline. I had to read it twice to make sure I could believe my eyes. This might the be the pinnacle of entitlement. Taking legal action against your alma mater because a player is wearing the number you used to wear. Unreal. What a silly idea.

I'm trying to think of the players I've watched in my lifetime that were so great they should have the jerseys retired. I can only think of a few.

This is exactly why retiring numbers is a retarded premise.

Daniels is a moron here.

quote:

The process seems simple: LSU's administrative staff schedules a Zoom call between Coach Kiffin, Jayden, and Pickett. Kiffin and Pickett take the call from Kiffin's office. On the call, Pickett expresses his sincerely admiration for Jayden and respectfully asks Jayden if Pickett can wear #5, both to honor Pickett's high school and to honor Jayden. Kiffin and Pickett both acknowledge to Jayden that they could not fathom any LSU offensive player attempting to wear #5. Jayden most likely says "yes" and ESPN gets to tell that story during the Clemons broadcast. If he says "no" then Pickett wears #3 but sees that Kiffin tried to make it happen Why the hell does LSU football employ so many people if they can't get something like this right?

Why is anyone accepting the premise that former players need to be consulted about current players jersey numbers?

What an insane notion.

This is such a perfect example of where we are today as a society and primarily in college sports.
Something that used to bring me so much joy and excitement now is just “whatever” because of the selfishness of all involved.

I loved watching and pulling for Jayden while at LSU and now in the NFL.

In saying that:
It’s a fricking number and doesn’t take anything away from his accomplishments.

If Daniels cared anything about LSU, he should be onboard with with helping LSU recruit and retain a player for the good of the team/program.

I saw this headline on social media and legitimately thought it was fake.

Wow, talk about destroying your legacy at the place that helped get you to where you are today. Mayor misstep on his camp’s part.

I’m trying to understand how someone could do this and not see how selfish and entitled it appears. I can be one selfish SOB, but I just couldn’t see myself even contemplating doing something like this.

I have a feeling many in the media will come to his defense. If only because it’s trendy to dump on LSU these days. I’m also surprised this wasn’t a Pat Forde story.

I appreciate daniels and him coming play at lsu. Fun to watch. The name on the front is bigger than the name on back or number.

JD can cry in a corner. Never was HIS #

Well his mom can sit on the fact that while Burrow’s status remains high and his clips get used for LSU, Jayden’s won’t and he’ll fade away due to the bad blood created.

Eventually Burrow will have a statue. Jayden would have too…but now? I’d say no.

Brian Kelly did the old "promising both girlfriends dinner on Saturday night" and put himself in a dilemma.

He promised Pickett 5 on his recruiting visits while at the same time Daniels went on to win the Heisman just a few months later. Incredible.

Remember when Patrick Peterson got butthurt that Tyrann Mathieu switched from #14 to his #7 after he left for the NFL?

Me either because Patrick Peterson isn’t a sensitive retard that gets in his feelings over something as stupid as that.

Such a bad PR move by Daniels. He could have done the opposite and made a statement saying something like he supports LSU and hopes Pickett does great things wearing the #5 as LSU believed in him when others didn't. Would have come out smelling like a rose instead of a pile of poop like now.

I could see being a tad miffed over it but throwing a full blown tantrum, hiring an attorney, and effectively taking your ball and going home over a number ? Why? What’s the end game ? Take the number away from the kid to protect your fragile ego?

Who on his team thought this would be a good look?
