Don't forget about this boards favorite guy, McDonnell. 73-45-1. Lost in the supers last year and didn't come close to making the tournament this year.

believe he was the first choice. That timely release of information by UF was to keep him there. Sully has done a great job, like him or not.
Definitely a torpedo job by someone Funny how as soon as LSU went with Jay all the dirt on Sully got swept under the rug

This Board had such a hard on for Louisville Coach during that coaching search.

He is an example of a west coast guy who coached that way because he had to. He doesn’t have to here, but if ever we need to adjust to small ball (despite our bunting in the CWS) I believe he can make the adjustments

Virtually all elite coaches were hired onto their legacy job after being “proven commodities “
He knew coming here was his opportunity to win ChampionshipS. He has etched his name in LSU lore and is young enough that he could accomplish unprecedented things here.
Why put a wet blanket on a great time?

Paul had a hand in getting Scott off a couple of coaches.

The best part is: He's 46, and loves it here. It would shock me to see Jay leave LSU for any other job, we're in for some good times.
Now granted, it’s only rhetoric but Jay already said “This is the best baseball job in the country. I wouldn’t leave LSU to manage the New York Yankees.”

I believe him. They interviewed his dad, who said that Jay had wanted to be a college baseball coach since he was a kid. And he grew up watching the 90s teams in Omaha. Now Jay is fulfilling his dream, he's leading that program, and just won a national championship doing that.
During the championship ceremony, Jay admitted that he would rather make plans for 2024 than prepare a speech. Can TD honestly tell me he'd leave after that?

O'Sullivan, Bianco, Vitello: 45 seasons in SEC, 2 national championships.
O'Sullivan would have been a good hire. Not sure how good of a hire Bianco would have been but I would not have liked the Vitello hire. With the way he approaches the game you can only tolerate so much if he isn't winning.
Jay was and is the best hire we could have gotten. We are in a great spot for years to come with him in charge.

Jay also said that he used to wear LSU baseball hats in his younger California days.
Definitely living his dream.

I still remember when we were tracking the LSU plane and it was heading to Arizona. Everyone was like WTF?

When Jay was hired I didn't know if he would work out due to him being a West Coast guy all of his career prior to LSU.
If you looked at his teams at Arizona you would have noticed he was not the type of West Coast coach we think of when we say that.

I think everyone was just concerned because he was a West Coast guy and West Coast guys usually don't pan out in the SEC. But Jay has proven he is more than just a "West Coach style Coach"

I think the conversation started in Omaha.

You don’t think he already knows?

I don’t think it’s a stretch to have known BK or KM and their accomplishments. And personally I knew about Jay because I have a large amount of family in AZ who are Arizona and ASU fans.

The "not a fit for LSU" idea because of where they are from or where they have coached is absolute bullshite.
