Some of you are incapable of understanding how a season like this can happen, and how it’ll likely never happen again.

We already know the process works (twice)

I bet my house if I would have asked you in February if LSU would finish SEC play with single digit wins you would have said impossible.

That’s because it’s historically bad. It’s literally never happened before.

I never believed that before this season. CJJ took over the best program in college baseball and has delivered two titles in 5 years. He has been lucky. The 2023 title would have gone the other way if not for two remarkable defensive plays. He has had a blah year and a shite year during that five year period.

My opinion before this season is that CJJ is a very good coach who works his arse off. I’d say he is one of the top coaches, but not clearly above everyone else. A top five coach should lead the nation in national championships if he coaches at LSU. And CJJ is doing just that. But he’s not competitive every year.

I don’t see how a season like this can happen at LSU.

My suggestion to folks who are "just asking" when JJ is gonna get on the hot seat and under what circumstances is this. Who could LSU get as HC in 2027 or 2028 who will win 2 more NC's for us? I do not see one coach out there in baseball who could guarantee winning 2 NC's in his first 4 seasons...NOT ONE.

I'll stick with JJ even if we do NOT make the CWS in the next 4 seasons.

You can say stuff like this about basically every baseball national championship team. Every team that wins a championship needs a little bit of “luck” or good fortune during their run.

Only thing I can think is it's people that already didn't like Jay, but they had to be quiet after he won a 2nd Natty. They can't use the Skenes angle against him.

They sure are quick to act this way against him now though. "But it's historically bad!!!" Keep in mind winning 2 of 3 in today's era is historically incredible the other way. They had injuries and a down year off a 2nd Natty in 3 years. I think it's going to be okay. I'm not sure what it matters if you win 5 SEC games or 12. It's all disappointing, but doesn't really change much to me. It's a crappy year. I don't expect another one next season.

Until this happens in B2B seasons then I'm not going to be negative. This season sucked and was disappointing, but the Jay hate is crazy to me.

Jay Johnson isn’t going to get fired or be on the hot seat anytime soon. But to answer your question, no one knows. I bet more than half of this board had never even heard of Jay Johnson until he was hired.

find me a national championship winning coach or team that hasn’t been lucky? Hell Skip probably doesn’t have 3 of his titles if it wasn’t for luck.

Jay Johnson absolutely WAS the best coach in college baseball. We shall see if he can rise back up. Some don’t make it back.

This statement could be a possibility of many champions.

We pay attention to it because it was us.

You could say the same for every team that has won a championship in history. Doesn’t say much.

He literally coached in the championship game before he was hired. Anyone who even somewhat watches baseball knew who he was.

True. But that year we were resurrected from the dead twice - once by Pearson and once by Tre. They did it, and they deserved to win, but from CJJ’s perspective we got very lucky that year. And for luck to balance out we’d have to lose a championship over some unfortunate plays. That hasn’t happened - yet.

You seem quite confident in your opinion. What's your reason for the "how"?

My .02: I think the Omaha run last year effed up our final evals when they moved the portal window. I also think JJ was short on cash. Those two things are all it took. Got priced out of a few top-tier dudes, and missed on a few of who was left over.

Not sure what to make of the regression of our pitchers.

The 2024 team was likely one game away from missing the NCAAT. They got a great draw for the regional and got to play Wofford twice (we never even faced Cowan). But that team only got into the tournament by the skin of their teeth.
