My memory goes back to 1981 with attending and watching LSU. Season tickets since the 90’s and the best football player regardless of position or offense or defense I have seen is Tyran Mathieu and that no slight to any other candidates. I have never seen a more instinctive football player at any level.

He might be the best safety in the NFL though

He doesn’t create turnovers so he’s disqualified from that distinction

Delpit had a better year than any year that Adams had but the question is whether he can replicate it. If so he will be better but that’s a tough if.

It was TM. Unreal on D and even better on special teams. Of he was around the ball, something was going to happen. Pure game changer and he only did it in two years.

Thanks for the thread, Jamaal

No way Jamaal Adams would go under the handle Grillades. Do you not know your French?

And don’t forget that Gaynell Tinsley in the 1936 Dust Bowl. Best defensive player I ever saw

Cecil Collins had as much talent as any player I’ve ever seen come thru LSU. He just couldn’t act right. Mathieu was a game changer an there’s not many of them in the game.

Who are the greats you remember?

Corey Webster got hurt his senior year, but he was phenomenal in the secondary and was huge in the biggest games in our 2003 championship season. First off, in his first season on defense as a sophomore, he led the SEC with 7 interceptions. He added another 7 in 2003, but he also secured the Georgia win in Tiger Stadium with an interception, he picked off Eli in the showdown against Ole Miss to see who would go to the SEC title game and then he intercepted OU's QB to set up our first score in the national championship game. He finished 2nd in LSU history in interceptions with 16 even though he played offense his 1st year and was hurt the majority of his senior year.

Chad Lavalais was another one. His 2003 season was incredible. Dude had 16 tackles for losses of 85 yards and 23 QB hurries to go with his sacks and tackles. He had a great career at LSU which culminated in that dominant senior year.
