I say "Honey Badger".

During 2011, the dude literally was everywhere.

Grant Delpit is the same way .

I don't understand why Adams gets this type of praise

I think Adams is a little overrated, but I get it. He - and Grant Delpit is almost identical in this respect - is the best safety we’ve ever had at coming up and making the tackle. Laron Landry hit harder, and that’s worth a lot, but Adams, and Delpit, are the best in LSU history at putting the stop to a ballcarrier.

Where Adams was just average was in pass protection. His lack of turnovers makes me downrate him some. Also, and maybe unfair, he had the chance to secure the win against Bama in 2014. LSU was leading. Bama needed a last minute hurry-up drive to tie it. LSU played Prevent. Bama started with a crossing pattern to a WR running from the offense’s left to right. Adams was stationed between the WR and the sideline with one job - don’t let him get out of bounds. If Adams does that job LSU wins. Even if the Bama receiver turned upfield for a first down there wasn’t enough time and downs to complete that drive. The WR faked upfield, Adams abandoned his position, the receiver got to the sidelines and the clock stopped.

Perhaps unfair to weigh that so heavily, because he was a freshman, and it was one instance, but I can’t help it. I give Jalen Mills a pass for being a freshman two years earlier when he let Yeldon score, but that’s because no one is calling him GOAT.

Exactly. There’s a reason his number is up at the stadium.

Jamal Adams is a better Pro than he was a College player. You obviously didn’t see Matthieu or Peterson play a lick.

2. LaRon Landry

Very happy to see Laron on your list this high, and I agree he is #2 behind TM imo.

I’ve posted this in similar threads, but people forget how absolutely electric he was at LSU due to the caricature he became in the NFL.

His game at LSU was pretty much flawless. Everyone remembers the big hits and being a ferocious and feared head hunter, which he was, but he was also lightning fast and as great in coverage as he was in run support or on the blitz.

He was a four year starter and team leader, not to mention tackling leader, on probably the best four year stretch of LSU defenses in the modern era, and was the highest Tiger defender ever selected by the NFL at #6 before Devin White at #5 this year.

An absolute legend of the purple and gold.

Capped his career by starting 48 straight games for the Tigers ... Finished career by playing in 52 games, starting 48 times ... Credited with 315 career tackles, 12 interceptions and eight sacks ... The 12 interceptions rank ties for the third-highest total in school history ... His 315 career tackles ranks as the seventh-highest total in LSU history ... Had a total of 40 defended passes in his career, which ranks second behind Corey Webster’s 49 in school history ... Capped career with at least one tackle in 51 straight games ... Joins Shawn Burks (1983-85) as the only players in school history to lead the Tigers in tackles three times during their career ... Landry led LSU in total tackles as a freshman in 2003, in 2004 and again in 2006 ... One of the most decorated defensive backs in school history, earning First-Team All-America honors in 2006 and Third-Team All-America recognition in 2005 ... Also a two-time First-Team All-SEC selection in both 2005 and 2006 ... Selected to play in the 2007 Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala.

My list:

1. Tyrann Mathieu
2. Laron Landry
3. Marcus Spears
4. Devin White
5. Corey Webster

1. Tyrann Matthieu - His instincts were incredible as a play maker, defender, special teams, and returns.

2. Tommy Cassanova - Must be judged by his time period. Was the BEST football player in America in his day. Sports Illustrated had his picture on the cover of their preview magazine in his senior year and they stated exactly that.

There are many who would be close, but these two stand out to this Tiger fan from the days of Billy Cannon and company.

Chad Jones and Tyrann Matthieu were both HUGE playmakers on defense, and Delpit seems to be right on target to join those two guys.

Anyone who says a DB like Adams is better than Honey Badger obviously never watched both play. TM7 would just take whatever he wanted when he wanted. He was like a LB playing CB and a small CB at that. Anytime you needed a clutch play he always seemed to take the ball away. Do you remember his freshman year when they were playing TAMU and he lined up and hit a 260lb TE? He made that guy look like his bitch and just took the ball from him in the middle of the tackle. Not to mention he flattened that dude out.

Adams was a hell of a player but it's not even a comparison about who the better DB was. Patrick Peterson was better than Adams too simply because he was such a dominant force teams just completely avoided him. Adams is a S so he could find action in areas like the run game. Patrick Peterson would go to sleep at CB and when teams attempted to attack him he made these effortless domination coverage over the WRs. He was the smoothest athlete I've ever seen at LSU football. You could tell his athleticism was on another level. TM7 was a better football player and nasty.
