I see you keep saying this in multiple threads, but I think it's a little disingenuous. I agree LSU does not run very many sets or "plays" but there is certainly a motion offense being ran. But there still are some plays being used. For example, off the opening tip, LSU went straight into a double pin down with a seal from Baker on the block. Executed pretty well and Baker got decent positioning, he's just not very good at putting the ball in the hole.

Aight dude. Again, I never claimed to be an expert this all started because I said Jalen Cook wasn’t very good at basketball tonight which is the correct take.

Cook has zero defensive skill none, but he will jack it up from anywhere at anytime.

Dykes was very diplomatic in saying he's not the best on ball defender in the league.

I think cooks on ball skills aren’t sub par, but he seems to almost refuse to rotate. It seemed like he watched multiple layups happen. He seems very late to help.

You know what I get flashbacks of when Cook is running the offense - When Stringer was point guard under Trent, we run that high ball screen, the opposition hard hedges and it blows up everything and it takes him about 10 seconds to extricate himself from that predicament (if he doesn't turn the ball over) and the offense is totally out of synch and we're lucky to get a decent shot off.
This does not seem to happen nearly as much with others at point as it does Cook, for whatever reason. We need to keep playing Cook because of his offensive potential, but if we're going to, either play him off ball or ditch the high ball screen when he's running the show.

And where do you think LSU would be without him? Probably 1-6 in conference play. He’s being what this team needs him to be, aggressive. This team is lacking offensive firepower, Cook and Wright is all you really have.

He's used to being the best player by a long shot on worse teams like at Tulane. Don't get me wrong, he's likely the best player but it's not by far. He was a big fish in small pond at Tulane and now he's a medium sized fish in a lake that is the SEC.
Don't get me wrong he's not a bad player, but he's not the type of player that your entire team should run through in the SEC. We need to find ways to involve other players in our offense and utilize his playmaking ability. Whether schemed or tunnel vision, he has a tendency to go into hero ball mode. We need to avoid that as much as possible if we want to consistently be competitive in the SEC.

I agree. Sometimes I think he decides he’s going to shoot before he crosses mid-court. He definitely has playmaking skills. I would kind of like to see how him and Jalen Reed would work with some pick and roll action.

It’s what cook is comfortable doing because it’s all he has ever done. Doesn’t seem like what McMahon wants to do, which just makes it odd that we took him.
Guess McMahon thought he would be able to coach him up, but that doesn’t appear to be happening.

There’s a big difference in what he is doing and playing smart basketball. He does not rotate defensively and holds the ball too long running the offense, which leads to poor decisions like taking really bad shots. Why do you think he sits on the bench for long stretches in a game? He lacks the discipline and leadership skills needed at PG, and he is not a good defender. Bama’s PG made him look bad several times taking him off the dribble all the way to the cup for scores.

if you want to see what Cook should be, look at Sears for bama. Dude plays his arse off.

Sears is more physical and bigger but he is an elite SEC PG. Cook is just a good PG but not consistent and he preferably looks for his shot first. When you get great PG play it elevates the entire team. We had almost 6 players in double figures against Bama.,offense was not the issue. Had no one to stop Sears much less slow him down.,

Agree n the effort. He’s missin the intensity level that Hannibal brings. Hannibal just lack some talent but he gives 100% every minute he’s in there.

And again, what would their record be without him? At best, they would have 1 SEC win. With the current roster, you have to take the good with the bad.
